Ezria analysis - 2x20 (part 2)

So Ezra was supposed to meet Aria at some restaurant, but because she was with Holden at the time she had to ‘resched’.

Notice how the text start’s off with ‘It’s Aria’?

This could only mean that both Ezra and Aria have two phones. When Aria is with the girls, Ezra is always there to send the text. This would probably explain the –A.

-Did anyone else realised the wallpaper on Ezra’s phone looks like a typewriter?

Flash Bulb, Camera, Blowout!

This clue was given out just before the 5x25 finale.

The picture shows ‘A’ inside a lair.

Along the top of the frame, there are several old school CRT monitors. Next to ‘A,’ we see a bottle of soda (Coca Cola).

On the main computer screen, we see some pyramid and eye shapes, reminiscent of N.A.T. Club.

The central message is: “flash bulb, camera, blowout!“

And the message on top of the circle says: “intelligence buds.”

Intelligence Buds

In 5x25, there’s a scene inside the Campbell farm lair where we find the same old CRT monitors as shown in the clue.

It’s worth noting this is the most technologically primitive lair we’ve ever seen.

The monitors and computers look circa 1980′s, indicating that this operation could be much older than we think. We may be looking at the birthplace of the N.A.T. Club.

But one detail that caught my eye was this lingering shot.

In the top right of the frame, just above the keyboard, you’ll see a pair of white ear buds.

Buds! Intelligence buds?

I knew I’d seen these white ear buds before!

It only took me a minute to figure out where…

JASON!!!

The N.A.T. Club founder himself, and sole surviving member as far as we know.

This is from 2x19, the scene where Spencer asks him if Peter is his father!

This occurs just before Mona gets sent to Radley and a new ‘A’ steals her game. We know Mona began communicating with Jason from inside Radley, using Lucas as a messenger.

Flash Bulb, Camera, Blowout!

This phrase of the clue appears to point back to 3x13.

There are so many strange things going on in that episode, but one thing that always stood out to me was how Jason and Lucas were clearly working together.

Just what is the nature of their relationship? N.A.T.? Intelligence buddies, maybe?

Later on, there’s a scene where Jason directs Lucas with eye signals. Lucas ducks out of the car just before the mayhem starts.

Is that you, Charles?

One thing I’m sure of: it’s not Mona.

No way.

The Phantom is clearly taller and bigger than Hanna. Even on heels, Mona doesn’t even come close.

Look at the size of his hands. Not to mention, the guy has an Adam’s apple.

Now that we know of Charles’ affinity for Phantom of the Opera, we can consider this scene in a different light.

Hanna pushes him off, and he just runs away. Almost like he’s shy and she scares him off.

And this behavior is very much in line with what we see from Charles at the prom and in the vault. He hides behind mannequins, as if too shy to come forward. And later in the vault, he just runs away.

There’s one point where we see Lucas’ camera next to a clapboard, representing Jason’s “movie”, and a cauldron with a hand representing That Night and Alison or Bethany buried alive.

Fascinating.

When the soda cart gets knocked over, the body bag is exposed from under the ice. Perhaps the bottle of Coca Cola in the original clue is an additional pointer towards this particular scene…

And Lucas is right there with his camera. His flash bulb is so bright that it blows out the frame to a nearly all-white wash.

TWIN PEACOCKS THEORY

YAY HUGE THEORY TIME YAY

Ok, so the logo for Campbell Farms - the apple barn place thingy - is this right here (two peacocks - TWIN PEACOCKS, if I may - facing each other, across a star with apples around them):

So, naturally, I went looking for more peacocks on the show…

This is from Ali’s house (5X13) - if you watch this scene, there is a HUGE focus on this peacock, it’s in almost every frame and very hard to ignore… the lighting is also set to create TWO peacocks, the other being the shade (in this scene we also see all sorts of other things that Hanna finds up there that could have belonged to Charles, like the block with the letter ‘C’ from my earlier post):

From that same episode, at the ice ball - Jenna, Sydney and the twins all have peacock feathers (they look like two pairs of twins, mirroring each other, just like the peacocks in the logo):

Also, Charles’ hand painting resembles a peacock (could be because he really loved the apple barn and his memories from there when he was little):

Then there’s Emily in ‘UnmAksed’ (???), but this could be too old to be relevant.

And Aria on the Halloween train in her Daisy Buchanan costume (some might say it resembles a peacock):

THEN - like the well taught PLL viewer that I am - I googled all sorts of combinations with ‘peacock’ such as Vladimir Nabokov and our beloved Alfred Hitchcock and guess what? Hitchcock has a film called “Juno and the Peacock” in which one of the characters is named CHARLES and there’s a pregnancy story and an inheritance story there, too! I was too tired to figure out the exact parallels between the plots (will give it a try later), but it’s worth checking out. You can actually watch it right here: x

I also can’t ignore how similar ‘Twin Peacocks’ is to ‘Twin Peaks’, which is a show that PLL has always reminded me of and I think the writers even said that it’s inspired by it, so maybe it’s just a pun or maybe there’s something deeper to it. In Twin Peaks there is also a teenage girl who is murdered (but then she’s not really dead?) and the rest of the characters try to figure out who killed her, then they find out she lived a double life and there’s a bunch of doppelgangers - including one of hers - yeah, it’s just like on PLL (and somewhat like Ravenswood with the supernatural stuff going on) so it’s clearly related… I’d like to think this similarity is intentional.

Anyway, I’ll keep my eye out for more peacocks - if you find any please let me know and I’ll add it to the theory (with credit, of course!). I worked kinda hard on this post, so if you use it please give credit. Thanks for reading!
