Marieke Bloembergen writes about this photo on page 334 in her book 'The colonial display. The Netherlands and the Indies at the World Exhibitions (1880-1931), Amsterdam (World Library) 2002'. 

She visited a museum in the puri kaleran in Peliatan, which is named after a former inhabitant of this puri, Anak Agung Mandera, who died in 1986. On the basis of old photos and newspaper articles, the history of the famous gamelan and dance group from this village depicted in the photo is shown: "At the beginning of the exhibition hangs a group portrait of the dancers and gamelan players chosen for Paris. Stiff they pose in the Colonial Institute in Amsterdam in their new Peek & Cloppenburg suits.To the right of center the portly Mandera looks over the shoulders of the Volksraad member Tjokorda Gde Raka Soekawati, the punggawa (district head) of Ubud, who led the entire party to Paris.
