What ideas are you challenging/questioning?
Iâve decided that I want to focus on the future of food, specifically the how sounds and our neurology changes the way we taste food. Through this idea, I want to challenge the conventional thinking that food just uses taste and sight, but it can also involve even sound.Â
How does your future feel? What does it look like? How do people interact?
In this future, restaurants would be playing specific music in order to let their food tastes better, people could make specific playlists to listen to whilst eating a certain type of food. Food will be more exciting and creative. People would place more importance on not only what they eat, but also how they eat.Â
Whatâs unexpected about the future? Whatâs the same?
There would probably be many more kinds of ultra-processed and genetically modified foods, however unlike before where these foods were considered unhealthy like potato chips and soda, the future of processed foods may be advertised as âhealthyâ, such as many more plant-based meats, increasing the nutrition in food through science, etc.Â
Whatâs the problem your object solves? Or creates?
By paying more attention to your senses when eating, perhaps more people would care about the way they eat their food, which may lead them to start caring more about what they eat - which is something extremely important not just as on an individual level, but as a society and for the rest of the world.Â
This could potentially create problems, in a more extreme sense, manipulation of tastes. Firms may be able to make their food taste better through sound, even though they donât actually taste very good or not good for people.Â
What details will you include? What details will you omit?
Another potential area of food that I can incorporate into this project is also other âfuturisticâ foods such as high protein insects and algae. However, Iâm not sure this will work out as it might be too much as I think the sounds of food might be something enough for me to explore.Â
