Coat the rim of a champagne glass with the sparkle sugar. Fill it half full with Crème de cassis and then mix in a small shake of purple pearl dust. Top it off with champagne and watch it shimmer.

We chose Aria, the long reigning queen of WTF fashion on Pretty Little Liars, as style inspiration.  You just need some comic books, garden netting and a couple of yellow dish towels for the purse (pro tip: to get butterflies on your purse, just drench it in sugar water, stand really still outside, and they’ll come a-flyin’). And tape.  So much tape. With just a few easy steps, you too can stroll the streets of murdertown Rosewood with your very on generic white boy.*

Cover Switch 1: Two Boys Kissing and Carry On (Bevin’s pick)

The obvious answer is that the two covers both feature boys faces very close together.  The heart of both of these stories are about boys finding love, sometimes in unusual places. Two Boys Kissing could easily apply to Simon and Baz.  Carry On could apply to Harry and Craig carrying on with their record setting kiss, despite all the difficulties around them and to the new generation of boys carrying on the legacy of the narrators.

Cover Switch 2: Lady Renegades and White Glove War (Kim’s Pick)

The gloves on Lady Renegades would fit super well with White Glove War and the girl on White Glove War would fit right in with the girls in Lady Renegades. These two books both feature magical Southern belles with lots of secrets who have to fight darkness to save someone they love.  Hayes and Harper would probably have a lot to talk about.*

Cover Switch 3: All The Rage and Asking For It (Carmen’s Pick)

Both books involve the aftermath of a rape on a girl and the bullying, public shaming, and just general shittiness of other people that occur after it. Both cover images convey what people say about the main characters after the rape and how the main character feels.

The KCMOFYA Keep Calm and Drink On party was yesterday and we had a blast coming up with several, um, interesting drinks. First up, our shiny spinner, complete with magic wand!

The 4 extra wedges we chose are: Snowbaz, Noreabang Disco Heaven, Blaze not Cheryl, and Accident Season.  Our MPDG is Delilah from Great.

We were so busy having fun making the drinks that we didn’t take as many pictures as we should have!  Here are a few, including a drink Carmen made from a horrifying mixture of items (and dubbed Unicorn Jizz) that the rest of us refused to even try. 

Kim spun first and landed on Luna Lovegood.  The drink includes pickle juice (both sweet and dill) and vodka infused with basil and garlic. It’s served in a tiny teapot with a pickle moon garnish. We think Luna would approve.

Bevin was up next with Noreabang Disco Heaven.  It features Kinky Pink Liqueur, strawberry infused vodka, ginger beer, and a squeeze of lime.  Serve it with a disco ball garnish and it’s perfect karaoke companion.

Carmen was the final contestant and the winner of this contest with her Snowbaz.

2 shots lemon infused vodka 2 shots lemon granita 1 shot coconut rum ½ cup ice coconut whipped cream sparkle sugar

Put the vodka, rum, granita, and ice in a blender amnd blend until slushy-like.  Pour in a martini glass.  Drizzle the top with coconut whipped cream and top with sparkle sugar. Garnish with a cross to keep the vampires away or leave it off if you want a certain vampire to get closer.

There is a moment’s pause, and then the planchette begins its slow migration across the scarred board’s gothic black alphabet, spelling out a word.

“That’s the spirit,” someone quips.

“What is your name, o great spirit?” the hostess insists.

The planchette moves quickly.

Audiobook Recommendations from KCMOFYA

Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins

This book is a true delight on it’s own, but Amy Rubinate’s narration – complete with Southern Belle accent – really brings the book to life.  I rewound it several times just to listen to her deliver the line about kissing the janitor.

Boy Meets Boy by David Levithan

David Levithan really knows how to write an adorable, funny, and heartfelt romance like no one else. Bonus points for the ridiculous yet catchy lounge-style song at the beginning.  

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

I mean, who doesn’t love the Scorpio Races?  But you haven’t truly experienced how magical it is until you hear it narrated by Steve West and Fiona Hardingham and their beautiful accents. It also makes the switching narration easier to follow.

The Year of the Rat by Clare Furniss

I sobbed for Pearl and raged at all the adults in her life.

Fiendish by Brenna Yovanoff

I could not get into this as a print book, but when I listened to it for work, I couldn’t get enough of the lush and creepy descriptions.
