da vinci: describe your dream wedding.

i’m gonna sound crazy, but…i’ve always wanted a big wedding. like, with tons of family and friends. bring your friends along, just a big huge celebration, everyone is invited. i want a white lace dress and a huge buffet with a ton of food. i want it to be a big event celebrating not only my relationship but all of the people who contributed to making me who i am.

seurat: if you can wear only one color with different shades for the rest of your life, which one is it, and why?

this is a hard one but i think just for fashion sake i would choose black. like gray, …even white i guess would count?

vermeer: which of your qualities make you a dream girl?

oh, geez – i don’t really think i’m a dream girl but i guess my uniqueness. the red hair …people seem to notice that about me first.

matisse: how do you express your love to your friends/family/significant other?

mostly by means of physical touch and telling them how much i care. i think it’s one thing to touch someone but another to hear it laid out flat. words are so powerful and when you use them the right way, they can be so meaningful. i also have a tendency to buy my friends a lot of gifts, even when maybe i can’t afford it, because it makes me feel like they’ll know i’m thinking of them.

kahlan: jace khouri you're speaking my language

indy had known kahlan long enough to know when she was nervous – she’d long ago picked up on the girl’s nervous habits, the way her body language and tone changed when she was feeling jittery. sitting up with kahlan, indy climbed into her lap, for once thankful for their height difference as she pressed her lips to the corner of her mouth in an attempt to calm the redhead down, even if only slightly. “hey, you have nothing to apologise for or be nervous about,” she said, a warm little smile on her face, “you’re adorable, you’re my best friend, and i love you so much. i’m so lucky to have you in my life at all, but i’m even luckier to get to love and be loved by you.” 

having indy on her lap calmed her instantly. her hands travelled down the other woman’s sides, resting gently on her hips. kahlan glanced at her girlfriend with a neutral expression, just as pensive as before but finally finding peace. the kiss came to her at the perfect time. her eyes fluttered shut for a moment, deepening the gesture. kahlan often fantasized about this moment; the one where she’d tell indy she was in love, but having it transition into a real and genuine occurrence had her head reeling. “we’re both lucky, then.” she spoke softly, natural smile returning to her features. “i love listening to you talk but now that you’re on top of me i’m totally distracted, so -- ...” the redhead admitted then bit at her lip. “but, thank you...you know just what to do and what to say to make me feel better. and yeah, i love you so much, too. you might get sick of me saying that but i promise every time i say it that i mean it. for real.”

indy watched kahlan in awe as she spoke, her heart beating rapidly in her chest. she’d had no idea kahlan had felt this way about her for so long and, though she felt stupid for not having seen it back then, she knew that there was some part of her that had had feelings for kahlan long before she’d realised, too. she’d always thought kahlan was beautiful, always felt as if she deserved more than the bullshit her ex had given her. kahlan’s story only made her love the girl fiercer, solidified the fact that she’d so anything so long as it kept her girlfriend happy. “i had no idea,” indy said softly, leaning in to press a soft, quick kiss to kahlan’s lips, “i was so destroyed for you when all of that happened. i don’t ever want to make you feel the way she did.” she moved in closer to kahlan, twirling her red hair around her fingers gently. “you’re it for me, too. i hate that it took me so long to realise it, but we’re here now, and i’m never letting you go.”

“i trust you.” kahlan sighed through a smile, feeling such a large burden lift itself from her shoulders. everything she felt was now out in the open -- there was no more disputing the things that indy made her feel. collecting herself, kahlan sat upward, still unsure how to manoeuvre herself after such a loaded confession. she was so nervous. indy still did that to her, months after their first kiss, and years after they’d met. she knew possibly everything there was to know about the blonde woman, but she cherished all of it. she truly did trust indy, for the first time in what had felt like forever, she completely entrusted someone with her heart. “you’re my best friend.” she declared, “and you have every part of me.” kahlan ran her fingers through her hair, the habitual gesture showing itself through a subconscious display of jitters. “don’t be sorry. never be sorry. yeah, exactly -- i have you now, which is honestly the best thing ever...i’m so awkward, even after everything. i’m sorry. i love you.” 

“you do? you are?” indy said, the smile on her face growing wider and brighter as she processed kahlan’s words and everything that was happening. even though she knew kahlan would never hurt her on purpose, she’d been so prepared for heartbreak and hurt because it was all she’d ever known, but hearing those words coming from her girlfriend, finally, was more than she could have ever hoped for. she felt light, on top of the world, like she could conquer anything so long as kahlan was by her side. she leaned in again, pressing a tender kiss to her girlfriend’s lips, revelling in how well they fit together, how right this finally felt. being in love was new, scary, but it was also the best thing indy had ever experienced in her life. “i’m in love with you, too,” she said softly, running her fingers through kahlan’s bright red hair gently, “god, i’m so fucking in love with you. you’re perfect for me.”

“yes, i am.” kahlan pursed her lips, a bit surprised at indy’s disbelief. she felt like it had been so obvious for so long, but perhaps she was better at hiding it than she’d initially thought. “...” she paused with a breath, slow to start her next sentence “...i --” kahlan had to shake her head at herself, reflecting on the hundreds of times she’d been reminded of her feelings for indy, and the million times she’d invalidated all of those times by never even dreaming indy would reciprocate. “i knew i was in love with you when you came to visit me at the hospital after my derby accident. i just lied in that hospital bed with a broken arm and a broken collarbone and cried about finding out my ex cheated on me, and i genuinely felt like my whole world was over...i mean, a year...and then, nothing. i kept calling myself stupid and i was just ...a mess. and you were just there. and i couldn’t believe i’d wasted so much time on any girl that wasn’t you, but back then, i just never would have thought i’d be in this position, where you’d say it back.” she explained quietly, playing with indy’s hair “you’re it for me. i’ve always known.”

finn looked at his surroundings, feeling completely out of his element. “uh, hello there, kahlan,” he greeted, pushing his brother in front of himself. “this is my brother, elton alden nye,” finn introduced his younger sibling, who complained that the girl should call him alden (he hated when people called him elton, especially when his brother did it to annoy him). finn stepped forward, looking directly at kahlan. “apparently my brother wanted to surprise me with a christmas makeover, think you can help?” he asked, clearing his throat awkwardly. alden looked absolutely evil from the way he was smirking at the situation. why had finn agreed to this?

kahlan’s grin was impenetrable at witnessing finn and his little brother interact. too cute, she thought to herself, vaguely reminded of her own relationship with her younger sister. “hi alden.” she glanced toward him, totally amused that his idea of a holiday treat for finn would be a makeover of all things, or perhaps this was his way of torturing finn(?) as siblings typically did. “well, yes...i can help you with that.” she folded her hands, making eye contact with finn, a sort of ‘blink twice if you need rescuing’ expression on her face. “so, um. what sort of look were you hoping to achieve?” finn was probably the last person in all of the cape she’d expected to be putting makeup on so close to christmas, but that in and of itself made her far too happy.

“We’re mutuals? Oh my- I’m so sorry!” She brought a hand to her mouth, suddenly excited by the thought of having someone with common interests. “Right– right…” Angel regained her composure, “I think you can join me, you got a good hair and I apologize for the cheap comment. I was just being a diva because, well, you know, it’s kind of my aesthetic,” she laughed. “It’s good to finally meet someone with an ounce of decency in this hellhole of bastards,” Angel offered her a hand, her grip a little bit stronger than most. “We should do this live together, since you’re a beauty guru and all… Plus, I am in dire need of good makeup tips. I swear, my makeup artist is a bitch and won’t quit whining about her cheating husband.”

“yeah, of course. no worries, my dear.” kahlan was slightly put off by the woman’s bluntness, but in her industry, this type of persona didn’t shock her whatsoever. kahlan had been drafted to join angel for her instagram live, and while flattered, the redhead felt totally unprepared. normally for streaming, kahlan spent literal hours in preparation, but perhaps this was her time to appear even more down to earth to her audience.  she figured most of her followers would know angel, so meshing their fanbase didn’t seem like a bad idea, but she was still surprised to have been invited to join angel on a mere moment’s notice. kahlan removed the sunglasses from her head and brushed her fingers through her hair, flashing the other woman a soft smile. the beauty community definitely had a way of introducing her to people she would have otherwise never thought to interact with. “oh, i’m sorry to hear about your makeup artist, but if you need any help with anything at all i’m your girl.” the redhead took out her phone and used the camera to check her reflection, hoping her makeup appeared less like a simple on the town look and more like she’d actually expected to be recognized today. “but yeah, i’d love to join you!”

this was her opening, indy thought. it would be so easy to spill those three little words right now, to tell kahlan just how much she liked and cared for her so meaningfully. they were on the tip of her tongue and she wasn’t sure how much longer she could keep them in, or if she even wanted to anymore. she’d never been this into someone before, had never felt the things kahlan made her feel with every little touch and every word. she felt a strange calmness come over her as she pressed a small kiss to the corner of kahlan’s mouth, every worry she’d had simply disappearing when she thought about how right this was. “i like you so much, too,” she said softly, small smile on her lips, “i love you, kahlan.”

loving indy had come so naturally to kahlan -- something that had always been a part of her, only ever having to rear itself after the infatuation had grown into a real and justified feeling. but hearing the words, it was different; kahlan giggled as an immediate reaction, full lips spilling a cascade of nervous laughter. it was real now. her girlfriend had crossed a threshold there was no turning back from, and as amazing and as perfect as it was, it terrified her, but in a way that didn’t feel as scary as it should have. kahlan cupped indy’s face with her hands and pulled her in for a kiss, closing the distance between them for a prolonged moment as she gave herself time to process everything and to immortalize the moment. “i love you, too.” she whispered after pulling away, furrowing her brow in a subconscious shift in tone. it was so serious, all the years of letting herself fall meshing into those three words. she’d opened herself up to all the things she was terrified of: getting hurt again, being left alone, but kahlan didn’t care. “i love you.” she repeated, as though the words could amplify her feelings, and they did. she couldn’t promise indy forever, that was unfair, but she so desperately wanted to & in the midst of her head reeling that was the word that came after.  “i’m in love with you.”

kahlan: hi babe!!! how are you?

trying to focus on kahlan’s voice, indy felt her skin prickling under the other girl’s touch, every inch of her body so in tune and aware of kahlan that it made it hard to focus. she grinned at kahlan’s teasing, her flirting, and pressed a soft kiss to her lips just because she could. “i can definitely do a drawing or a painting. maybe i’ll wrap myself up for you for christmas night,” indy teased with a smile, ideas for kahlan’s gift already running through her head while she leaned into her girlfriend’s touch some more, “you’re beautiful. i don’t know how i got this lucky.”

“i’d like that.” kahlan bit at her lip, then coyishly gazed into indy’s eyes with a smile. her heart raced and her nerves sent sparks up her limbs as she listened to her girlfriend talk. her gentle touch rested on the side of indy’s face, and in an instant, she’s completely taken -- not unlike her, at all, to be totally losing herself to the feeling. it was something so intense, the sort of feeling that she’d been searching for in empty relationships and feeble crushes, that she hadn’t located until now. “i like you. so much.” she breathed, the same nervousness that had afflicted her on the night of her confession pulsating in the centre of her chest. 

indy giggled softly from beneath kahlan, her fingers running through her girlfriend’s hair gently, marvelling at how soft everything about her was. she had never experienced a love like this before, had never thought she could be so wrapped up in a person, especially someone she’d known for so long. but kahlan surprised her everyday, her own feelings growing every time she was in the presence of the girl. “you’re so cute,” she said softly, pressing a soft kiss to kahlan’s shoulder, “but i can’t wrap myself up for you so i need to get you something, at least.”
