While yes, there are aspects where they balance each other out, and I myself talk about them from time to time, and talk about how those things support their relationship - I think it's also a major part of their interactions that no, they're not that different.

They're both little shits that enjoy some mean for mean's sake, because yes, Hinata and Kageyema are galaxy level stupid and it's funny. At the same time, they're both well-behaved boys that, ultimately, do respect their elders, Japanese school sports culture-appropriately, and never get in trouble. They're both nerds from prep class that end up getting a decent college degree and stable, "normal" jobs right next to their hometown. They both seem to be introverts, or at the very least, are enough of asocial losers to spend most of their free time with just the one close friend they can be around without social anxiety oozing out of their pores. Neither are dream big types by any means, having, at best, realistic outlook on their own abilities; they're "normal people" who just happen to be in one room with these weirdo geniuses, they "know their place" so to say and won't go for a bigger bite than they can chew.

The way I see it, these things are a huge part of them being so close, as well. They can both appreciate the random ramblings and the thoughtful silence. They both appreciate the respect for unvoiced boundaries and being given space for the most part, as well as being bluntly told "as it is" when needed. They share the feeling of wanting to stay in your lane - in a good way, not because you're stalling or stagnating, but because even with all the needed growth and change, you just know that's where you belong and you love it for what it is.
