If I think about endlantis for too long I explode and die. I'm always thinking about when in QSMP the Ender King leaves phil a book that says something along the lines of "your greatest achievement is discovering the realm that I created".
Which. Sure! In a sense, that is true! If the end is how Phil got his wings, then that makes perfect sense! ...But the long-term implications of that statement change entirely when you consider what state Phil arrived to the End in.
If Phil found it after the war had concluded and it had already been flooded- which I do see as a genuine possibility since to my knowledge this hasn't been debunked???
-Then he didn't find the realm that the Ender king created. He found the realm that the Ender king failed to maintain. A place that found it's beauty and success as a result of his greatest failure.
And even if Phil did arrive when the end was still in its former state... Is that really much better? What does it say about the King's status if one man can kill the centuries-old ender dragon as if he'd done it a thousand times prior? Afterwards, Phil only returns to the end to farm endermen that he doesn't need... Maybe grab a couple shulker boxes if he's feeling adventurous... Of course, he fishes, but that's only after it floods. What does the King have to his name and legacy before all that? Fields of chorus fruit? Endermen, Shulkers, and Endermites? Abandoned cities with only two items of any real, long-term value?
Phil has confirmed that from a roleplay perspective in Hardcore, hcPhil DISCOVERS these ruins and such, not builds them (though he does add things and "repair"/touch-up the places). So you'd be correct that he found the Realm Ender King failed to maintain. :)
I think you hit the nail on the head as to why EK is such a sour bitch and sore loser towards Phil. Endlantis only thrives because of EK's failure in his own domain, and that smug immortal bird had the audacity to "make it even prettier."
Because of the flooding and his lack of a working, living physical vessel, EK can't even OWN his own domain. Phil practically does, and like you said it's basically just a pretty place to sight-see, fish, and harness the life force of EK's forsaken people (though not that he ever cared about his people to begin with).
In EK's eyes, Phil took what's rightfully EK's, and there are only two things stopping him: the water, and no vessel. Which he tried to remedy in QSMP and failed thanks to a child.

This is a more organised rewrite of my headcanon for how the Hardcore/one life mechanic could work in regards to Philzas lore.
It has slight hints of angst, so I’m sure crows will enjoy.
The original post I did was written quickly while I was half asleep, so I’d like to make a more comprehensive list, including details I forgot in the first one.
I’ll also try to explain things in a way people new or unfamiliar with Philza S4 Hardcore world will be able to follow and hopefully enjoy.
Philza hardcore S4 headcanons
Unlike some other interpretations where Hardcore is something that affects Phil specifically (causing him to have one life/can’t respawn), this idea is the world itself being so fragile that a significant (player) death will destroy it.
(This also helps explain why he could die/respawn in other worlds/servers like QSMP)
But first we need to cover why the world is so fragile to begin with; The God War.
Rough timeline of the God War (before Philza arrives):
- World begins existing. Standard Minecraft layout with 3 dimensions; Overworld, Nether and End.
- The various Gods form in their domains (Blaze Empress = Nether, Rose = Overworld nature/plants, Ocean Overlord = Overworld Oceans, Enderking = End, plus some additional Gods Phil has implied exist but hasn’t yet given any details)
- Initial time of peace, everyone’s happy except Enderking who is growing jealous of the other Gods vibrant, lively domains, while he is stuck with the desolate End.
- Enderking begins exerting his power, stealing bits and pieces of Overworld and Nether (Like how Endermen steal blocks, he can steal whole biomes) and bringing them to the End.
- Other Gods eventually notice the theft, start turning against Enderking.
- Enderking becomes angrier at their rejection, he feels he’s just claiming what should rightfully be his, because his world has nothing but he has the power to change that.
- Enderking begins targeting the other Gods domains. (Blaze and Ocean)
- The Gods try to repair the damage he caused with their own powers.
- Nethervoid and Flowerfall are created.
- Rose reinforces her own domain as a preventative measure against Enderking.
- Greater Spawn Islands are created.
- Enderking plans to use his power to fuse both the Overworld and the Nether with the End, giving himself full control over the whole world.
- This leads to the Flooding of the End, and the death of Enderking.
(- Phil has mentioned a few causes of the flooding, but I’m uncertain what the official take is, or if Phil has even decided there is one. Either Enderking simply fucked up his world takeover attempt, the other Gods interfered with his plan, or the Gods actively caused the flooding as an attack on the Enderking. Honestly doesn’t matter which is correct for this, so pick your favourite.)
- Endlantis is created.
- World is left in disrepair, the remaining Gods try and keep their domains safe as the damage just continues to grow.
- The Gods eventually become weaker and weaker, until they are barely active in the world, their creations falling to ruin around them as a very long period of time passes (Centuries? Millennia?)
- Philza finds the world.
Quick Overview:
- The main cause of the worlds fragility is the war between Enderking and the other Gods.
- Enderking is the main culprit of the damage, but the other Gods haven’t helped the situation.
- Every time the Enderking used his power to steal a piece of the Overworld or Nether it left behind damage that the Void could then enter and spread. (Nethervoid is the obvious example of this)
- He also caused further problems by bringing the stolen matter to the End, further details below (The Void).
- As a result the world is on the brink of destruction, it can’t be saved.
- None of the HC deities know the extent of the damage their world has suffered, they don’t realise they are doomed.
- When Philza found the world it basically latched on to him, the fact he’s the Angel of Death means he can just barely stabilise the world.
- He is fully aware of the state of the world, and he’s the only one that knows.
- But he can’t fix it, only pause its deterioration.
- And when he does eventually, inevitably die, the world will be consumed by the Void and vanish.
- The Gods will also die with the world, as they are essentially the living embodiment of their parts of the world.
- Philza will be the only thing to survive, just moving on to a different world, like he always has.
The Void:
- The Void is eternal, unending and exists between all worlds.
- It is not malicious, it isn’t even conscious in any way, it is simply a force of nature.
- No God has dominion over the Void, but Kristin - as the Goddess of Death - has the closest connection to the Void.
- The Void could be viewed as a gateway to Kristin’s realm (Death) due to it destroying/killing all that it consumes.
- In normal circumstances both the Overworld and Nether have a layer of solid bedrock shielding them from the Void below and preventing it from affecting them, but due to the Enderkings actions this is no longer the case.
- The Void now has easy access to both realms and has begun to spread and disrupt the fabric of the world.
- The End doesn’t have the security of a bedrock barrier, it is always floating above a hungry Void.
- The dragon is linked to the Void, that’s why it’s able to destroy blocks. (I have other hcs about the dragon, but they aren’t really relevant to the Hardcore lore)
- A careful balancing act of empty, desolate islands are all that can safely exist without agitating the Void below.
- When the Enderking started bringing massive amounts of matter from the Overworld and Nether to the End it disrupted that balance.
- Even though he shrinks his stolen prizes down, it doesn’t counteract the sheer amount of material he has pulled into the End.
- All 3 dimensions are actively being targeted and consumed by the Void, and nothing can undo the damage.
Nethervoid:
- Nethervoid is the most blatant sign of the damage the world is suffering, it also demonstrates how the Gods don’t realise how serious the damage is.
- The Blaze Empress has used a massive amount of power to try and restrain the Void and its reach, and on the surface she seems to have been successful.
- The Quartress and its surrounding islands make it appear that the Empress has everything under control, but to maintain the Nethervoid she has to constantly expend energy just to keep it stable.
- The reality is that Nethervoid is a drain on both energy and physical matter (it is still consuming the Nether, while Blaze has slowed it significantly she can’t stop it), and it is a one way system.
- Everything that is consumed in Nethervoid is irreversibly lost to the Void, further adding to the worlds deterioration.
Special mention for Nethervoid part 2:
- I was happy with part 2 because it works really well with my ideas.
- To be specific it shows the how the Void is spreading beyond Nethervoid itself, despite Blaze Empress doing her best to contain it.
- Each window to a distant biome is an ominous sign of the Void consuming the Nether, all those locations are now at risk.
- I imagine the windows began to appear after the War, in the very long period of time between the Enderkings death and Philza finding the world, during which all the surviving Gods begin to grow weaker and less active in the world.
- While I’ve been writing this all out, Philza just had a recent stream where he mentioned the formation of a river passing between two of the windows, and how Blaze saw it forming and did nothing about it… could interpret that as she couldn’t do anything about it as she looses her ability to keep the Nethervoid stable. (I was excited when he mentioned that little idea haha)
- The windows are a sign of the Blaze Empress losing her strength and grip on Nethervoid.
Overworld:
- The damage to the Overworld is less obvious than the Nether (at least in the locations we have seen/Phil has built) due to there being more gods in the Overworld to try and maintain appearances (Rose, Ocean Ovelord to start, and Phil has hinted at there being more he hasn’t revealed yet).
- Or that’s how things seem on the surface, the truth is that the Enderkings actions have fractured the Overworld just as severely as the Nether.
- It should be noted that in Enderkings lair we can see a collection of places he has stolen, this includes the Ocean Overlords original temple and a piece of the Nether we can assume is what originally sat in Nethervoids location.
- But there are more than just those 2, multiple Overworld biomes are on display alongside them, and it’s safe to say that the others didn’t all have a dedicated God trying to salvage the damage done to the region following the theft.
- The presence of the Void at some of these locations rivals that of Nethervoid, if not worse due to lack of Godly interference.
- These biomes are scattered across the Overworld, out of sight for most of the Gods, but they are seriously damaged, and that damage is spreading unchecked.
Endlantis:
- Most info about the damage done by Enderking has already been covered in above sections, but I should once again mention how bringing large amounts of matter to the End makes the Void lurking below more voracious.
- Especially considering how the War ended with the flooding of the central island, with an oceans worth of water being brought to the End in a single moment.
- That addition of a literal fuckton of water really didn’t help the whole balance thing the End needed to stay stable and keep the Void calm.
- Depending on what version of events caused the flooding of the End (Enderking messed up his world fusing plan, or the Gods did something to cause the flood) means either the Enderking has yet another thing to be blamed for, or the other Gods unknowingly threw their whole world even further towards oblivion.
- Admittedly stopping the Enderking was definitely necessary, considering his ultimate goal was combining all 3 dimensions, a plan that would have absolutely plunged the world straight into the Void and killed them all if he actually went through with it.
- Not that any of them know that.
Special mention for the Battle for Endlantis:
- Specifically the fact 2 dragons showed up and messed up part of Endlantis.
- As mentioned before, dragons are connected to the Void, hence the block destruction.
- The instability of the End basically summoned 2 whole ass dragons to consume some of that stolen material.
- Philza eventually kills both, but not before they take a few good chunks out of the various stolen biomes, structures, and even the Enderkings own corpse.
- This situation wasn’t so much an attack, more like an instinctive drive to correct an imbalance.
Philza:
- So, the man (Angel? Bird?) that’s keeping the whole world from being Yeeted into the Void.
- He’s an immortal wanderer, you know, standard Philza character lore.
- He travels to different worlds, exploring and learning about them as he goes, occasionally staying long enough to leave his own mark on a world before pressing onward again.
- Then he found this world; a fragile, fragmented mess that was hanging on the very edge of existence, quite literally teetering on the edge of the Void.
- He could recognise the world clinging to his presence - he was something new and strong enough to provide at least a little stability - and realised he was the only thing that could stave off the inevitable destruction. At least, as long as he avoided dying.
- He saw the God-made structures, fallen into disrepair, and took it upon himself to try and restore them, at least for as long as he could remain in the world.
- He eventually came into contact with the remaining Gods, weak and sleepy as they are, and began to learn about the worlds history, about how it came to be in such a state.
- The surviving Gods like him, they see him as a new, curious little mortal, helpfully cleaning up their domains and listening to their stories, because all Gods are a little vain and like to be acknowledged.
- They don’t realise the reason he’s so careful, so focused on removing any dangerous pests (mobs) from their homes and making them safe (spawn proof), is because he can’t risk dying.
- None of them realise Philza is the only thing preventing their deaths.
- And Philza has no intention of telling them.
The Inevitable:
- Ultimately, Philza will eventually die. He’s a fantastic survivalist, but not perfect, and it will happen eventually.
- When he dies it will send ripples through the delicate fabric of the world, and those ripples will finally tear it to pieces.
- The Void will roar through every dimension and consume everything in its path.
- The Gods won’t even realise what is happening when they die. It’ll be too quick.
- And Phil will move on to a new world, the only remnants of this one being the memories he carries, and whatever stories he shares in the future.
I’m pretty sure that’s all the details I have for this concept now, at least the ones specifically about just the S4 world.
A story about Gods unintentionally destroying their own reality, and not a single one even realises it’s happening. Only a solitary wanderer stumbling into the world understands the dire situation they are in.
I do want to clarify I am but a simple crow, I don’t know everything Philza has shared on this world, and maybe some of these ideas do conflict with some detail he has mentioned and I missed/forgor. These are just some fun headcanons I dreamed up over the last few months that make the world itself a bit more angsty.
It’s also probably obvious, but these ideas aren’t going into detail about the Gods themselves, mainly because both Phil and the community have created so much lore for them that trying to include all that here would likely triple the length of this post, at the very least. So I’m intentionally not going into detail on that aspect of lore, just my ideas of how the world itself works.
I do have a few thoughts about how this all interacts with the QSMP lore Phil did, and how things might change a bit to work with what we saw on Quesadilla Island, and how it might have progressed if the server hadn’t ended (some of which is a bit evil) but I’m gonna leave this for now.
Okay, so with the news that Phil's wings weren't clipped but straight up paralyzed on the qsmp, I come bearing thoughts (angst):
Imagine Phil first getting to the island. The confusion of this new place and uncertainty around these new people. He tries to fly to find a place to perch, to watch for any dangers but- he can't. He can't move his wings. The growing panic as they're not responding to him, and instead just sit dully on his back. Yes, he's dealt with injured wings before - how could he ever forget that stone room - but at least then, despite the damage, he could still feel and move them. But now, he has absolutely no control of an integral part of his being. It's an overwhelming panic that fades into a simmering anxiety that never truly leaves.
Imagine when he meets the kids. These precious, new to the world fledglings that have been placed under his care. He wants to protect them and show them that he cares, but- he can't. Not how he wants to, at least. He can't wrap his wings around them during a hug, he can't lay a wing around their shoulders if they get cold. He can hold them in his arms and offer an extra blanket, but that doesn't replace the deep ache within him, the feeling that he's not doing what he should.
Battle is harder. He's used to relying on his wings for advantages- quicker dodges, higher jumps, better balance. Now? They're a hindrance, and he loathes to think of Her gift as such, but he needs to relearn how to fight. He begins shoving them into a backpack to deal with them. It hurts, stuffing them in there when all he wants is to feel the wind in his feathers, but it makes life on the island more manageable.
Purgatory happens. One would think the blood red skies and harsh air wouldn't be conducive to healing but- slowly, he realizes he can move his wings again. It starts small- a twitch here and there when something surprises him, which turns into him being able to slowly stretch them out. Standing outside, surrounded by the dead bodies of his team as wind fills his open wings, Phil finally feels alive again.
He didn't think he'd be able to fly, but as they all make a break for the ship, he stretches his wings out in a desperate attempt to at least glide. On instinct, his wings flap- they move. It's painful. By void, is it painful, tired, aching muscles after months of misuse. But he's flying. Phil could almost laugh.
Maybe that's why he tried jumping off the wall. Once back on the island, he couldn't move them anymore, but he still dealt with the aches of when he did. It kept him up at night. Maybe, just maybe, they'd work. They'd catch him on instinct, just like they had done in Purgatory. The wind is cold and biting as he stands on the edge, almost like a warning. He thinks back to the very time he tried flying, with mechanical wings all those years ago. Then, he had been saved by Her before hitting the water. This time, there's nothing that prevents him from being surrounded by the icy water, pulled under by the weight of his wings.
He gives up. There's an aching disappointment in letting go of hope, but as long as he's on the island, he can't fly. Maybe that's why he can't find it in himself to be devastated when the Ender King destroys his wings further. He briefly mourns the destruction of his wife's gift but shoulders the grief and continues on.

---
The waystone in the tree swooshed as a demon stumbled into existence. He clutched a shredded shirt to his side, inhaling through his teeth at the stabbing pain from moving. Across the floor, three figures were deeply asleep, one wrapped around the other two, a scarred, still beautiful wing covering the two completely.
Bad inhaled slowly. “Sorry old friend…” He breathed, and stepped forward, carefully lifting the dark wing of the blond man, folding it back away from the two still eggs. He pulled the quilts higher around the two eggs, pausing for the briefest moments at their warmth.
He shook his head, taking a crumpled sheet and wrapping it around the deeply asleep man. The tall demon lifted the winged blonde, one arm under his knees, the other supporting his torso.
“Sorry little ones. Your papa will come back soon. I will make sure of it.” He whispered, then turned back to the waystone.
He warped away, arriving in a ruined hellscape. “I have him!” Bad called out, beginning to sprint toward a golden glow not far away.
“Bad!” The familiar voice of Foolish called out. The massive shark-totem hurried to escort Bad and his precious cargo to the structure that was almost complete.
Bad carefully set the blonde man down on the central slab of gray stone.
“I still don’t get why it has to be him.” Tubbo grumbled.
“He is touched by Death in a way that no other islander is, Tubbo.” Bad said. “Everyone ready?” he looked up at the torn group in various stages of injury, who nodded.
Cellbit, Baghera, Tina, Pierre, Maximus, Fit, Foolish, Etoiles, Charlie, Pac, Mike and Tubbo were all gathered around. Bad nodded. “Ok. Cellbit. Can you start us off? I will be last. Tubbo will need to- put down that sword. Phil will be most likely to follow where you point.”
Tubbo huffed, but nodded at Bad’s words.
Cellbit took a breath and straightened. He flipped the machete in his hands around and as a tear slid down his cheek, declared: “ONE for sorrow.” He plunged the blade into his gut. He collapsed on the floor, his life essence spinning out of his body, a small portion breaking off and absorbing into Philza’s sleeping body. The remainder coalesced above the bed nearby, forming into Cellbit once more. He hurried to gather his things from his dead body as Etoiles began to speak.
“TWO for mirth.” He chuckled, bringing up his code touched blade to his throat, slashing it with one quick movement. He crumpled like Cellbit, the same life essence show happening to Etoiles. He too respawned, hurrying to collect his gear and turn to face the lurking nightmares that were clawing to stop the ritual.
“THREE for a wedding.” Fit declared, squeezing Pac’s hand. He held out a titanium band to the dark haired brazilian, who gladly let Fit slip it onto his ring finger. Pac repeated the action, placing an almost identical ring on Fit’s finger. Fit nodded, and Pac blinked away tears, refusing to let any fall, as he took a step back, his Dreadbow appearing in his hand. He pulled back, a shadowy arrow appearing on the string. After a moment the arrow flashed red and Pac released the arrow, point blank at Fit’s head.
A bit of Fit’s life essence flowed to Philza, and he too respawned.
“FOUR for a birth.” Maximus declared. He took a step back away from the group, and his skin shred itself from the inside. Green ones and zeros danced across his flesh, cutting and eating his body, which spat out his life essence. A small bit of it surged toward Philza, the rest returning to Maximus’ reborn body.
“FIVE for silver.” Pierre declared, sloughing off his jacket, exposing his silver, robotic arms. He turned, the firelight catching his metal cheek. He flicked open a hatch on his chest, revealing the only fleshy part of him, his still beating heart. He extended a finger, and stabbed the fleshy organ, his eyes going dark. A bit of life essence joined the globe that was growing above the sleeping avian before Pierre jolted back to life.
“SIX for gold.” Foolish declared, squeezing the totem in his hand, before dropping it to the ground, unholstering his federation issued gun up, pointing it under his chin, squeezing the trigger.
He crumpled, his life essence roiling out of his dead body, a truly monstrous amount. The small amount that joined the growing lump above the comatose form on the altar barely a drop in the ocean of his life. He hurried to collect his things after respawn, joining Cellbit and Etoiles in guarding the ritual against the monsters.
“SEVEN a secret ne’er to be told.” Tina said, reaching up and untying the ribbon around the little cat ear points of her hairstyle, revealing a pair of sawed off stumps of demon horns.
Tina lifted a scythe that all gathered recognized as belonging to Bagi, and with a single movement, beheaded herself. She joined the others after respawn, her slender horns restored, nails lengthened into claws ready to tear the encroaching enemy apart.
“EIGHT for a wish.” Charlie declared, looking down at his code touched arms, thinking back to the little girl he wished so deeply to see again. He let his body dissolve into slime, then finally into nothingness. Upon respawn, the code infection was gone.
“NINE for a kiss.” Pac said, grasping Fit’s hand, leaning forward, deeply kissing the taller Floridian man. Fit enjoyed the moment, then revved his chainsaw and plunged it into Pac’s gut, ripping it to the side. Pac crumpled, and respawned.
“TEN a bird you must not miss~!” Baghera sang, spinning in place. She revved her chainsaw, spinning it in her grasp recklessly. Resulting in her chainsawing off her own head. She scooped up the still growling weapon upon her respawn, turning and brandishing it at the ever closing in monsters.
“ELEVEN for hope.” Mike said, looking down at the little bouquet of sunflowers. He flicked open a little vial, downing the glowing green contents. He collapsed like a puppet with cut strings, respawning after a moment.
Etoiles turned back toward the altar, opening his mouth to speak again.
“TWELVE for health.” Tubbo declared before Etoiles could speak. Etoiles and Bad froze, not daring to speak for fear that it would ruin the ritual.
Tubbo lifted his wrench, and began bashing in his skull. The others could only watch on silently as Tubbo quickly collapsed, his life essence hovering above his body. It was tiny, and became even smaller as a portion joined the almost complete orb above Philza.
Fit scooped up Foolish’s dropped totem, pressing it against Tubbo’s chest. The totem shattered, dragging Tubbo’s small life essence back down into his body. Tubbo gasped as he returned to life.
“THIRTEEN beware of the devil himself.” Bad said, as everyone else backed away. He lifted his hand to his chest, feeling heart thump thump. It felt like his heart was being both stabbed and shattered into multiple pieces. For the first time, he was dying from a broken heart.
His vision went dark as he heard the DOOM of the ritual completing.
The firelight that warded off the encroaching monsters winked out, plunging the clearing into darkness. One by one, the beings gathered lit torches and lanterns to illuminate the space once more.
Fit carefully helped Tubbo stand, everyone else backing away from the altar, allowing the two to face the now standing figure that had been laid on the slab.
Where before the Being’s bird features had been limited to dark wings and slightly clawed fingers, now He was truly an Angelic fusion of Man and Bird.
The only human skin visible was his hands and around his mouth; every inch of his body not covered by his clothing was covered with tiny, dark feathers. His single pair of wings, once quite large, had multiplied thrice, each of the six now spanning double what they once did. His hand flexed and a
Witnessing The Angel of Death walking upon the earth once more, those who had performed the ritual were thankful that the time for their Tapestries of Life to be bound off had not yet come. But they prepared to follow the being they had called to cut off the Tapestries of those who desired to stop the weaving of their own.
For they were a family, and were prepared to witness the beautiful weaving of this day…
so you're twenty five now (twenty three, always) and i wanted to wish you happy birthday. yeah, i'm still thinking about you (i never really stopped). i'm sorry i haven't watched your videos lately, even if i want to go back and revisit my favourites (i feel so stupid for still tearing up every time i hear your voice), i know it doesn't matter, that i'm one pair of eyes out of literal millions, but i think i'm just mad at myself because they're my favourites for a reason!! they're good videos!! anyways not the point, the point is i wanted to thank you because even though it's your birthday i get to share all the gifts the people who love you have put their heart into. i love the people who love you too. i love that we get to celebrate you, i hope we always will. i'm thinking of you today, always, but it makes me happy to know, again, that i'm just one of millions.
this is your legacy living on; love, creativity, and community.

Hi. I'm coping well <- lying
Have some. Uh. Bittersweet sad angsty fluff of q/hc!Phil about it?
