I mean a large cornerstone of Phil’s themes is the like, interrogation of the revenge male protagonist. Irl Kristin working with special ed types means I think she’d be more capable of dealing with the ‘abused child’ role that the “children” represent, in a way where she’s not fully giving in like Philza does. I think she’d risk pushing back more than he would in a way necessary for swifter character development, but which might also lead to her getting seriously injured. But also Lambs Kristin wouldn’t have all that training/degree, and wouldn’t be equipped with the modern understanding of mental illness like real Kristin

Maybe she had a background working with Mother, the NPC wisewomen non Prime worshiper, to have a concept of ‘spiritual’ illnesses that must be treated not with the slaughter Prime prescribes, to get her closer to an understanding of the autism/abused/queer coding the “kids” have going on?

I think it’d take her slightly longer to figure out her kids were replaced because 1. First assumption is they became spiritually sick so the “children” get a bit more grace period, and 2. Phil canonically cracked at recognizing imposters

I don’t want it to be like, Kristin flawlessly gets it all right. Being upfront about trying to cure them would backfire in a lot of ways. “Techno” wouldn’t care but “Tommy” would be deeply insulted to the point of violence and “Wilbur” is certain he needs to become Wilbur to be fixed.

Maybe Kristin thinks it’s all possession? Like they are her kids just taken over. And so at first she’s like, brazenly not scared in a way that majorly infuriates “Tommy”. “Wilbur” likes the interpretation bc if he can nail being Wilbur she’ll think it’s fixed and he can just pretend the rest of his life. “Techno” sees it as a waiting threat but Techno is holding them back.

But THEN when Kristin does finally piece together that no, they’ve been replaced entirely (*Techno semi excluded) that she serenely comes to the conclusion that the true cure she needs is death. She views her murder of the “children” not as revenge but as ‘putting them to peace’.

(imagine me tripping into view, breathing heavily) holy shit, i finally managed to finish it before the deadline. I was so worried I wouldn't, but here it is! and it's a doozy! But was also really fun to write.
