Omg I know the thingy said 5 hcs but it’s impossible for me to restrain myself to 5 for this one, so here we go!
He had it all and obviously, he expected to have an amazing quirk, too. But it never comes. Even when others gain theirs, Katsuki’s never comes. Even useless Deku gets an awesome quirk but Katsuki’s is still missing.
It’s a joke. Someone played him. He’s not quirkless. His quirk has just not come, no matter what the doctor or anyone else says. Katsuki doesn’t need to hear others say how lame he is. He’s amazing, didn’t they tell him that just weeks ago? And most importantly, he doesn’t need Deku’s damn pity.
Katsuki is no outcast, he chooses to stay away from the others. The few who used to pick fights with him have long since stopped, after realising Katsuki will not shy away from biting and scratching to fight them off. So Katsuki keeps to himself. Like hell is he going to lose. If he doesn’t have a qurik, he just has to train his body hard enough and become a hero with strength alone, like All Might. That way he can prove himself to everyone, and most importantly, to himself. He will shove it in Deku’s face, too. See if he will ever need Deku’s help again, not after the last fight Deku tried to fight for him.
He’s not bitter. He’s focused on a goal. He got his routine down. Wake up, go running, do some sit ups. Go to school. Do some push ups. Do homework. Go running. Do some lifting. Push your body a little further every day but never neglect your agility. And lastly, read up on quirks, strengths and weaknesses. And to bed before 9. Rinse and repeat, readjust where necessary. If he can’t win with power alone like All Might, he will use every bit of information he can find, to reach his goal. After all, a quirk is just an extra. Katsuki doesn’t need an extra to reach his goal. He will win.
Katsuki wanted to showcase his amazingness during the entrance exam but an even better opportunity came out. A villain attack and deku is the victim. It’s by chance that Katsuki walked by just as Deku got clutched by that monster. Damn, Deku, always on his case, chasing after him like a fucking guard and giving him these pitiful looks. Katsuki didn’t need deku to win his fights but obviously it’s useless Deku who needs his help, like back when they were kids. This is his chance to step out and say “Here I am and this is just the start. I’ll win it all.” He doesn’t just run in, he observes, calls the police, and when the right opportunity presents itself, he throws the trashcan on the side road from the bridge. He jumps down right after, grabs Deku’s stupid fucking hand and pulls. There is no give. The monster didn’t loosen it’s grip even with the distraction.
He’s not strong enough. That’s what Katsuki learns from the accident. He failed. Not only in front of Deku but All Might, too. He needs to get stronger, strong enough to overcome everyone without a quirk. That’s what it is, a damn handicap. When All Might approaches him, obviously ready to say something, Katsuki interrupts him. “This is just the start. This is nothing. It just means I have to work harder. I’m no hero, if I can’t overcome this handicap! This is just another step on my way to victory!” Then suddenly there is a twinkle in All Might’s eyes.
Katsuki gets scolded, gets Deku’s useless thanks, when he didn’t even save the guy and gets send home with a lecture. He reviews the fight, works on his body and spirit, and then opens the door to All Might. Katsuki refuses All Might’s power. Instead he makes a deal. If he gets into UA with his own strength, if he claims his first victory on his own, he will reconsider. First he needs to know his limits for himself. All Might’s determined look changes to one of firm conviction.
Izuku did not expect his qurik to be something quite so explosive. But with strength like this, he can become a hero like All Might and save as many people as possible. With his qurik, he can fight villains. It’s a power that will help him accomplish his dreams. But at the same time, it seems this new power came with losing his childhood friend.
Izuku tries everything but Kacchan is elusive and hostile. He doesn’t know what to do. Aren’t they friends? So he keeps chasing after Kacchan, but instead of the usual, he gets shoved back and pushed down. The other kids tell him to just leave Kacchan alone but they are all friends, aren’t they? Surely having no quirk shouldn’t change anything on that. Because Kacchan is still the same amazing person he always was.
Kacchan fights a lot. But it’s not him who starts the fights but the other kids. They insult him and when he talks back, things escalate rather quickly to a fight, one in which Kacchan claims victory, even if the other person uses their quirk. Izuku knows Kacchan is strong, has always admired Kacchan for the strength to overcome everything, but he does get worried, so he gets involved, when he sees one of the kids with an offensive quirk get involved. Kacchan might be strong but some fights are not meant to be fought alone. It makes Kacchan incredibly angry with him but Izuku has gotten used to that bit already.
Izuku has notebooks. Too many for him to count. He has notes on every hero that debuted and on most villains covered in the news. He keeps track of everything and works out the most used strategies of different heroes, to fight certain villains. He works on his quirk to test it some but doesn’t have many opportunities to do so, since the nature of his qurik is destruction and the City is no place to experiment with that.
Izuku prepares for the UA entrance exams as much as he can. He knows Kacchan will aim for it, too. If there is anyone who can become a hero without a qurik, Izuku firmly believes it’s Kacchan. After all, Kacchan has never ever lost.
The sludge monster comes out of nowhere and has him wrapped up in just a second. Izuku is suffocating and his qurik is out of control with his fear and desperation. He’s trying to breath, but smell of fire and the smoke add to the choking of this monster and Izuku is just about to pass out, when suddenly the hold of the monster loosens and he can breath again. When he takes a breath and blinks his tears away, it’s to Kacchan in front of him and trying to pull him out. For a moment, Izuku is just so relived because he knows that if Kacchan is here, he will be saved. Kacchan always wins.
This would be like the general setting for a qurik swap au, if I were to write one! This is probably not what you asked for but it kinda ran away from me 🙈
