I think I wanna go with classic werewolf tropes. Remembers some things sometimes but usually not much. All the memories are super vague still. As a werekangaroo he remembers who are his loved one's etc and that makes him more docile towards them but can get agitated and attack them, too. Just less likely.

(and he like, doesn't know WHO they are, just knows that they matter to him, ya know)

The "recognizes Spy mid attacking him and stops" and "hears spy tell him to stop attacking on someone and actually stops" kind of tropes while also keeping him very wild
