I just wanna say that Yuzuru Hanyu despite not winning a medal this year did an amazing job in the long program. He made up those numbers and I could see the fire coursing through him. I feel he truly redeemed himself.
I could feel his disappointment after he skated the short program. He didn't make any mistakes. He even said himself that his form was correct. I know they couldn't give him a redo for his program despite getting stuck in a hole, but I wish they could have.
He knows he's a gold medalist and that's all that matters. I hope he gives it one more go at the next Olympics. I'm still a loyal fan and he will always be one of my favorite skaters.

Okay im so fucking proud of Hanyu. The fact that he had the courage to go for the 4A at the Olympics is so amazing. And the rest of his program was so beautiful and elegant. Forever my favorite figure skater, none of them make me feel so moved like he does. I hope he walked away from that feeling proud of himself

“You told me that Cinderella married Prince Charming, because she was of nobility. (...) You’re wrong. Even if she was a beggar, she would have married him. Because she’s the main character.”
Yeo Ju Da, an unimaginative character by an uncreative writer, is a main female lead in Secret. Always smiling, kind, naïve, and forgiving in the comic, it was an interesting dilemma what would happen if she gained self awareness.
When the Clock Strikes Midnight
“I was suddenly curious. Why am I bullied with no apparent reason? And why do I feel like it’s natural? When those natural moments started to feel unfamiliar, I remembered your voice. ‘Take your time to think about how you feel right now.’”
When Yeo Ju Da finally becomes self-aware, there are many things that change in her. But most of all, her defining trait in the experience is how acutely she becomes aware of the sufferings of her character.
Even in the role as JuDa in Secret, she is poor, an orphan, with a sick grandmother, having to go to school through a charity.
There she is singled out by the popular guy and bullied by the popular girls. Even to pay a laundry bill she must work a part-time job.
“I can’t help but wait for him, because there’s nothing I can do on my own.”
In addition to this she is also aware of the helplessness of her position. Nothing good can happen to her unless the benefactor is one of her two love interests. She is without autonomy to turn around her life even when she knows how to fix her problems.
“I am sick and tired of help from you. Will you control me using your money again?”
She is also more disapproving of Oh Nam Joo, his stereotypical, cringey pride, his frustrating obliviousness, and how wasteful he is.
This Yeo Ju Da is conniving, shrewd, and ready to stand up for herself. One of the earliest moments of us seeing her gain awareness is here. Though she cannot stop herself from being bullied, she can at least enjoy the bullies being punished.
And most importantly, Yeo Ju Da initially tries to break herself free from the image the writer has given her, and tries to figure out who she really is, without the lens of a love interest.
“I want to know what I’ll be like without you.(...) It might be fun too."
The Butterfly Effect
“Will things between us change if Ju-Da becomes self aware?”
A question of the viewers that Lee Do Hwa asks early on, when Yeo Ju Da does become self aware there is hope that the story can be changed.
“Something so small can change a huge fate.”
Lee Do Hwa, her guardian angel, is the one who equips her with the faith to stand up for herself, and with the butterfly shoes on, Ju Da finally starts to change things for herself, however small.
“Why am I always smiling, energetic, and kind to everyone, even when you bully me? Must be because I’m the main character.”
The first thing she does is stand up to her bullies, not hesitating to punish them in the same way without any room for mercy.
“Then what do you like?” “Money.”
She also begins to use her role as Nam Joo's love interest, admitting freely that she likes him for his money.
“Do you think we can stay together until the end of the music? I don’t think so. Perhaps not.”
An interesting thing, however, is her belief that she and Do Hwa will never get together from the beginning. Falling for Do Hwa and changing the story is an extension of Dan Oh and Haru's story that we as viewers expect, but Ju Da gives up on it pretty early on.
“I like you. I can’t be courageous because we’re in a comic book. But I’ve been through so much until now. If I don’t get to enjoy a happy ending, it’ll be just too unfair.”
As I mentioned before, she is acutely aware of the sufferings she had to deal with because of being the main character, and logical as ever, Ju Da demands that she finally get the rewards for the burden, and get her happy ending.
Though it is a subject of speculation what she would have done had she known that everyone would be over once the story was finished, I still believe she wouldn't have changed the stage, though she perhaps would have pursued a relationship with Lee Do Hwa.
Nam Joo Over Do Hwa
“What a shame. Can’t the three of us go out? I can date you Monday Wednesday, Friday. And I can date Nam Ju Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Sundays I can spend some time alone.”
This was a very interesting and unexpected choice Ju Da made. Unlike Jinmichi Fairy and Soo Hyang, this move wasn't made out of blind fear, but a calculated decision, to get what she deserved without having to suffer any more than she already had.
I know that a lot of people think she pitied Nam Joo and therefore chose him, but really I believe it was out of empathy.
“I’m sure the main character came with a lot of burdens.”
She understands that as the main character, he would have had to naturally go through a lot of pain and setbacks. So she decides to give in to the role she has been given.
She drinks strawberry milk because the writer said she likes it, calls Nam Joo 'her man'. While she still has her distinct personality and uses it to change things for the better for herself, she also decides not to go directly against the author.
“I exist for you.”
And finally, she chooses Nam Joo because he lives the same truth she does.
True, this whole world around them just exists for the two of them. True, she was written just as his love interest. But the thing is, he only exists to fall in love with her too.
Ultimately she makes the choice that is the best for her, believing that the rewards of changing the story aren't worth the risks. She was truly an unexpected character for me, and was another way in which the show proved it's excellence.
