Weeks have passed since that fateful kiss and MC has still had no luck in trying to sort out her feelings; if anything, they’ve become even more entangled.
She goes to work with Alex everyday and most days she’ll go out for lunch with Medusa and the entire thing is just one big mess that MC knows she has to end because it’s unfair to keep stringing the both of them along like this.
But one night, she finds her sleep plagued with nightmares, tossing and turning until she awakes with a scream in her throat and a desperate need to see one person.
And something clicks into place, something that causes her to bolt from her bed and run all the way to a certain apartment.
She is panting by the time she arrives, ungraced with godly powers like so many of the people she loves, but she cannot stop, not when her heart is finally singing a truth she’s suppressed for so long.
By some stroke of luck, Medusa opens the door, her eyes clear and alert as if she too had not been able to sleep.
“MC? What’s wrong?” Medusa asks urgently, and MC knows that she would follow her to the ends of the earth if she asked.
“Can we talk?”

It’s been a few weeks since the last time she’s stepped into the house and she can’t help but look around, soaking in the warmth of a place that still feels like home.
At first glance, not a thing looks out of place but she can see the small places that are empty, the places from which she’d taken back her own things and her heart twinges with sadness.
Medusa lays down a cup of tea in front of her and she softly mutters her thanks as she clutches it in her hands.
She’d been so confident, so fearless on her way here but sitting here, under the weight of Medusa’s expectant gaze, she finds herself at a loss for words.
The last time she’d been here, she’d broken Medusa’s heart.
But then MC takes a sip of the tea and it is the same grey tea that Medusa treasures so and this is what finally gives MC the courage to speak.
“The kiss confused me,” she begins softly but firmly. Her words are nothing new, the same explanation she’d given when she’d broken up with Medusa, but MC needs to lay it all out now.
“I thought I’d gotten over my childhood crush on them but… it made my heart race even as I knew I loved you and… how could I do that to you?”
MC looks down into her tea, and her hand grips the cup tightly, “How could I be with you and say I loved you when a single kiss could make me waver?”
“I never wanted to be the one to hurt you but I did and I’m so sorry,” MC says, her eyes glistening with tears, but she holds them back because she needs Medusa to hear her. She looks up and the sight of Medusa looking away from her pains her more than words can express.
But MC continues because that is all she can do now.
“I’ve spent these past few weeks thinking and sorting out my emotions… But no matter how confused and out of sorts everything felt, there was always one truth I couldn’t forget. It all came back to one thing.”
MC stares directly at Medusa until they lock eyes and her voice grows strong with conviction, “I love you Medusa, and no one else.”
“I love you more and more every day that it doesn’t seem physically possible for one heart to hold so much. Any crush I might have had on Alex as a child pales in comparison to the feelings I have for you.”
“The hardest thing about these past few weeks was the knowledge that I had hurt you and all I wanted to do was be by your side. I wanted to drink your tea with you, I wanted to read raunchy novels with you, I wanted to lay in the garden with you, I wanted… you. And I knew for certain.”
MC’s voice grows infinitely tender, “The person I want to spend the rest of my life with… the person who owns my heart…”
“It’s you. It’ll always be you.”
MC’s insides have been so twisted up but as she utters these last words, she feels lighter than she has in weeks, assured in the truth of her heart.
“And I’m not asking you to take me back immediately,” MC quickly adds in consternation, “It wouldn’t be fair. But I spoke the truth tonight and my feelings for you will never change. If you let me back into your life, I will spend the rest of my life trying to show you.”
There is a pause and Medusa’s grey eyes do not change from their cool, discerning gaze.
“Is that all?” Medusa asks calmly and the three words cut into MC like a knife. She accepts the pain, knowing she deserves it and more.
“Yes,” MC says firmly, her voice resolute. She feels more like herself than she’s felt in weeks.
The silence continues and MC gets up, suddenly feeling uncomfortable in her seat, an unwelcome intruder on Medusa’s privacy. If Medusa cannot forgive her, then that is completely in her right no matter how much she might wish otherwise.
Even so, her heart feels like it’s shattering into pieces with each step she takes toward the door
“I didn’t say you had to leave.”
MC looks back, her heart a fluttering mess as hope swells in her chest and Medusa’s steely expression is gone. There is still some caution in her bearing yes, but her eyes are filled with a love that MC never thought she might be so lucky to see again and MC can’t help the sob that breaks out of her chest as she nearly trips in her hurry to tackle Medusa in an embrace.
Holding back her tears was never an option and they spill freely onto Medusa’s flannel shirt.
“I’m so sorry,” MC repeats like a mantra, clutching her as if she’ll never let go.
Waves of hurt and love battle inside of her before Medusa’s eyes close with a sigh. She holds MC, savouring the familiar weight of her lover in her arms and she quietly admits, “I missed you.”
