I’ve been thinking about this a lot, due to stuff going around, but is anyone else really uncomfortable with the way certain stans mock Jane’s eduction? Like Jane was literate, but she wasn’t reading fucking Greek philosophy or reformation doctrines. And some of y’all are like “haha that dumb bitch, she didn’t get a formal education on the continent.” Like y’all are mocking her because she wasn’t privileged enough to go to France and the Netherlands? Because she wasn’t taught 435 million languages like some others? Are y’all ok? Do you need help? Maybe an intervention? Like do you guys not see how fucking vile you’re being? If you think so lowly of Jane because she was only taught English and how to run a household, how do y’all see illiterate women of the time? Also valuing Jane on her “contribution” to history is just gross. She was a human being, sorry that she’s not your manic pixie dream historical self insert.

(Anne is also not your goddamn self insert, but that’s another conversation entirely. The influx of Boleyn media to the general public has basically stripped her of her personhood and it feels like she’s being treated as more of a brand than as a human being.
