Magnus does though. He’s been in love before, never like this but he’s been in love before. He recognizes the signs. He knows that he’s falling in love. He can see that path and despite everything that could go wrong, he keeps hold of Alec’s hand and walks that path.

They both choose to fall in love but Alec doesn’t realize that’s what he’s doing while Magnus does and it’s so beautiful. Alec, who has this entire life planned out with all these responsibilities that make it impossible for him to be himself, decided to choose something for himself, he chose Magnus. He chose to derail the tracks laid out in front of him and walk this new road with Magnus not knowing what it would end up leading to. Magnus, who has all these walls and barricades around his heart, decided he was willing to let someone take them down. He chose Alec to take them down. He watched as brick by brick, Alec took apart those walls knowing exactly what would happen when Alec was finished.

enemies to lovers: Classic, instantly attracted to the ship--never fails to work wonders (please note the difference between *enemies* and abusive behaviour); it is also great in the subtrope of rivals to lovers.

sunshine and the gremlin: Yes--one is a golden retriever puppy and the other a hissing, pissed-off chihuahua. This is the good stuff.

idiots to lovers: Also known as, sharing one brain cell. Excellent: can and will nourish my soul.

mutual pining: "They don't want me," scream the involved parties when confronted. "Not like I want them." Fools, you both want each other but make me endure five hundred pages of slow-burn. I love it.

childhood friends to lovers: Classic but in a completely opposite way to enemies to lovers. It's just very pure, falling for the person who knows you best.

will never stop talking about how much they love their partner+flustered/very much enjoying this partner: Well, that was a mouthful. But yes, I love the one character hyping their partner, even if the other is not around. They just love their partner and will take any opportunity to talk about them.

the badass and the supportive s/o: *holds tenderly in my cupped hands* Beautiful, inspirational, romance redefined.

madly in love and not happy about it (aka fuck, why them?): You ever have that crush where you're liking 'seriously? that one?'. Yeah, me too. Love this one because I relate to it *so much* and the evolution to 'yes, them.' is to die for.

polyamory: The only way love triangles are allowed to end from now on--a triangle has three sides that are all connected. If it's not polyamory (with immense suffering and angst), then is it really a triangle?

the hot and the suffering: "Oh no," whispers the sufferer. "I'm fucked."

basically married but not even dating: Also known as Oblivious idiots, where they're both completely infatuated with each other and absolutely unaware of it. Bonus: their friends are very sick and tired of their dumb asses so they try to set them up. Double bonus if it involves betting circles and found family shenanigans.

the moronsexual and their moron: *says something dumb* *s/o begins to remove shirt*. Good content: absolutely stunning if both of them alternate between the designated titles.

childhood friends to enemies to lovers: My absolutely favourite trope hands down. You get the tension, the drama, the conflict, the shared intimacy that's hard to forget, the betrayal, the longing, the reconciliation--it's the best of both worlds.
