Throw some glitter on it...
Curses! Another miss!
No matter, yesterday was a good day. While knee pain may have kept me out of roller derby, it did not stop me from going back to my burlesque troupe rehearsal for the first time after a two-month hiatus. I was greeted at the door with a loud cheer, and everybody in the room rushed to pile into a giant, half-dressed group hug. Sometimes my life is pretty fantastic.
I watched the troupe rehearse three group numbers for upcoming shows. The first was one I had been a part of the first time we performed it, and it made me a little sad to see that someone new was dancing in my spot. However, it was a great stress relief to know that my absence wasn’t disappointing anyone. The two new numbers both look stunning, and I’m excited to see them come together.
After rehearsal, many of us went to a benefit show where two members were performing. The show was full of fabulous solo burlesque and fire acts from all of the major troupes in the city, and I was reminded of why I started performing a little over a year ago. I saw so many body types and so many performance styles that it made me wonder what I was ever so nervous about. I also got some praise from the husband of one of my favorite producers regarding my Godzilla act. Even though I think it’s a mess and I’m certain everyone is bored with it, he said it’s a great act and they’re inviting me to perform in March’s Best Of show.
So, yay burlesque! Thank you for reminding me that I am fabulous and sexy and creative enough to wow an audience of strangers no matter how weird things get.
