#dancingontheinternet on show at PopUp Brighton. March 2018.
Four smartphones, simultaneously playing four videos of me performing Pina Bausch’s ‘Nelken Line’ along Brighton beach. The videos are played on a loop, giving the illusion of a never-ending dance.
This piece is part of an ongoing project, #dancingontheinternet, wherein I have learning and documenting choreographed dance. I have chosen to show these dances on smart phone handsets.
'The desolation of small things’
Mixed media installation.
Kate Shields
'The desolation of small things' is based around a passage from The Well of Loneliness, the book I took from my friend Phoebe's bedside after she passed away in June. The passage mentions the power that small objects take on after we lose someone, and I included small photos and oil paintings of objects that either belonged to her or remind me of her. I added bunting and balloons, as I never want to forget the amount of joy and fun she brought to everyone around her.

something I am working on at the moment, about the loss of a friend.
Panoramic shot of ‘In Colour’ by Peter Hudson, at Fabrica gallery, Brighton. Taken on my iPhone just before I life modelled for Jane Fordham’s experimental drawing class.
This wonderful exhibition is on for one more week and it’s been a real pleasure to volunteer and work alongside it.Â
I’m currently coming to the end of my placement at Fabrica, where I have been designing a project to get young LGBTQ people into performance art, and learning to write a funding application for it. I’ll be applying to a funding body at the end of October, and even if I’m not successful, it’s been great to learn such a valuable skill.
More about my work at Fabrica can be found on the right hand side of the page.

‘teacup in transition’

porcelain and teacup.
‘history brick’
At this years Brighton Pride, I carried around a brick, to acknowledge those who started the riots that started what we now call Pride, back in 1969.
Because history is important, but also heavy.
A ‘pillow book’ designed around my affection for early 90s teen films, created whilst recovering from a period of ill mental health.
Made using embroidery, mono printing, screen printing and typewriting.
Photographed as an installation at uni in May 2017.

Working on my 2nd year project at the moment...here's an early image. My laptop succumbed to an accidental spillage, which has slowed me down digitally. Hence using my old typewriter. More soon #bechdeltest
