The room went up in raucous applause. Deafening applause. Thunderous applause. Applause loud enough to start his ears ringing. Too much applause to keep track. He wondered, when was the last time he got a full night’s sleep? Things had been hard lately. December had been hard, but it was almost over. He just had to get through the end of the year. He just had to get through tonight. Just had to get through it so he could go home to— ‘—Satoru!’ Through the applause, through the static in his ears, indistinguishable from one another, he just about made out a gruff voice. A palm thumped down on his back hard enough to shake him from his ruminations. His eyes unfogged and everything was blue. His song — his Blue — filled his awareness.
