Why are people scared of something that is modified? A lot of people are sceptical about modified food because it simply is not "natural". In this sentence the word: "natural" has a positive sound and "modified" has a negative sound.  For every positive modified product, they always avoid the word "modified". Instead they focus on the positive features of the new modified product. For example: When we modify apples and load the apple with vitamin C, we can call it: "Modified Vitamin C - Apple", which has a negative sound. Or instead we could also call it: "Citrus-Apple" or simply give it a name like: Fuji, Elkstar... Island-apples. Avoid the bad name, avoid medical terms. Make it sound like citrus-fruits (loaded with vitamin C!) or give it a tropical name. It is all in the name. Keep the product as far away from the lab. Focus on the positive points or feelings.

The trend I really like and probably want to research about is called: "Bio-Foodhacking". Bio-Foodhacking is all about modifying food for the better. An example is "the golden rice" they made for the Philippines. In the Philippines a lot of people are lacking vitamin A. This because their diet and local vegetables do not include this vitamin. But vitamin A is necessary for a lot of things like for example a better sight. Researchers found a way to modify the rice, a product they daily consume. They put vitamin A in the rice. I thought this was a smart sollution. Bio-foodhacking is also about modifying crops, making them survive bad climates, it is also about modifying certain structure of food and food combined with medical things like injections. The problem about Bio-foodhacking is that a lot of people are sceptical about this. I want to research the boundries of people, what is acceptable and what is going to far and "ruining the nature" according to them? Karman Lee

Understandable Today I learned how to draw figures. The teacher-guy thought this drawing is nice because it was easy to understand what is going on. I thought this drawing was really ugly, but if that makes my concept understandable than ok. Karman Lee

A canvas for young artists, whether they make meaningful art or simply "don't think too much of it"-art, there is always some space for it in Bruxelles. The Bruxelles trip was very interesting, I had fun and learned a lot (went to 3(!) museums). Karman Lee

Design for China When is a design suitable for Chinese people? In this workshop we had to think about the Chinese culture and habits.  For example, Chinese people don't like to drink there white wine cold. Our assignment was to design an ice bucket for a fancy Chinese restaurant. What is there to design when no one even use an ice bucket? Eventually we designed two big taps that attract attention. People get to choose whether they like their wine cold or not. Karman Lee

Psychology - Bring a work of a designer you like Yayoi Kusama - Interactive Chaos Creation I really like the designer Kusama. The way she creates a interactive "installation" to start chaos.  Even in chaos you can see some patterns. Karman Lee
