Siempre he amado la poesía de Giorgio Caproni porque trabaja sobre la ausencia, sobre la herida, sobre el asombro de la soledad, pero sin renunciar a un doliente humor. Cuando el poeta escribió Araldica, el siglo pasado estaba en sus tres cuartas partes. El siglo en el que vivimos es tan nuevo, y sin embargo ya tan herido, como me siento herido yo por estos días de incertidumbre y soledad. Solo la voz del viejo poeta me recuerda que la experiencia que estoy viviendo es la de la vida. Solo el verso me guía a tientas dentro de la sombra que me invade, que nos invade, el corazón. Por eso, esta noche, traduzco un poema suyo.
Heráldica
Amor, cómo está herido el siglo, y qué solos estamos - tú, yo - en la grisura que no tiene nombre. Se acabó el tiempo del ruiseñor y del león. El blasón está roto. El licornio no ha dejado huella sobre el suelo: la Sombra, está en el corazón.

Araldica - Heraldry
Ho sempre amato la poesia di Giorgio Caproni perché lavora sull’assenza, sulla ferita, sullo stupore della solitudine ma senza rinunciare a un dolente umorismo. Quando il poeta ha scritto Araldica il secolo scorso era a tre quarti. Il secolo in cui viviamo è così nuovo, eppure già così ferito, come mi sento ferito io da questi giorni di incertezza e solitudine. Solo la voce del vecchio poeta mi ricorda che l’esperienza che sto facendo è quella della vita. Solo il verso mi guida a tentoni dentro l’ombra che mi invade, che ci invade, il cuore. Per questo nella notte traduco una sua poesia.
Araldica
Amore, com’è ferito il secolo, e come siamo soli – tu, io – nel grigiore che non ha nome. Finito è il tempo dell’usignolo e del leone. Il blasone è infranto. Il liocorno orma non ha lasciato sul suolo: l’Ombra, è in cuore.

I have always loved Giorgio Caproni’s poetry because it works through absence, wounds, and the wonder of solitude, without ever giving up a sorrowful sense of humor. When the poet wrote Heraldry, the last century was already three-quarters gone. The century we are living in is so new, and yet already so wounded, just as I feel wounded by these days of uncertainty and solitude. Only the voice of the old poet reminds me that the experience I am going through is that of life itself. Only the verse guides me, groping my way, into the shadow that overwhelms me, that overwhelms us, in the heart. That is why, tonight, I translate one of his poems.
Heraldry
My love, how wounded the century is, and how alone we are - you, I - in the grayness that has no name. Gone is the age of the nightingale and the lion. The arms are shattered. The unicorn has left no trace upon the earth: the Shadow is in the heart.
