âI said,â Blake continued on from before, shaking his head as he lit his cigarette. âJust pick at random. Close your eyes and then forget about it. Whatever you do, itâs going to be a bad outcome. Thereâs nothing we can change. Weâre sitting ducks.â His pessimism came from a place of torment, tired of seeing the people he loved suffering. âItâs hard but⌠We canât let ourselves feel guilty for what we canât control.â
Kara sighed gently as she put her phone away, crossing her arms with a shrug of her shoulders. âGod, our whole situation really feels hopeless when you say it like that,â she gave a weak chuckle. Frowning slightly, she shook her head. âI donât. Feel guilty, I mean.â A lie. One she wasnât confident Blake wouldnât pick up on. âThereâs no use in it when the one to actually blame is the fucked up person forcing us to make these decisions and then carrying them out.â That was what sheâd been trying to convince herself of since the incident with Tatiana anyway. Sheâd be damned if it didnât still make her feel like a shitty person. And she never thought she was a particularly good person to begin with.
