(How does one end up in a romantic relationship with Batgirl?)
You're being direct, aren't you, Anon? Are you asking for yourself or on behalf of a friend? Wanna hear the short version or the uncensored director's cut?
Just saying if it wassss on behalf of a friend that friend would be waiting very eagerly for the directors cut.
Alright, Kara. Since your… friend seems to be waiting very eagerly for the director’s cut, here it is.
- My schedule’s a disaster. Not a little messy or occasionally inconvenient. A genuine disaster. There’ll be times when we have plans and I’m completely excited about them… and then Gotham decides somebody needs help. Maybe it’s a robbery. Or a kidnapping. Or one of the city’s usual supervillain-related headaches. Whatever it is, if people are in danger, I’m going. That doesn’t mean I don’t care about our plans. It means somebody else needs me more in that moment. So if you’re dating me, flexibility isn’t optional.
- You’re gonna worry. Anybody who cares about me eventually does. I spend a lot of time in dangerous situations. I get hurt, I get bruised, I get exhausted… there are nights when things go perfectly and there are nights when they absolutely do not. Believe me, I don’t enjoy making people worry, but I can’t promise you’ll never do it.
- You’re not competing with the mission. And you shouldn’t want to. Helping people is a huge part of who I am. Gotham matters to me. Gothamites matter to me. If someone tries to make me choose between helping others and maintaining a relationship, that’s usually a sign we’re heading toward a problem. Support works much better than ultimatums.
- Trust’s absolutely necessary. There’ll be questions I can’t answer. There’ll be details I can’t share. There’ll be situations I can’t explain. Not because I don’t trust you or I don’t care, but because some secrets protect people. If you need explanations for absolutely everything, this probably won’t work.
- Please have a sense of humor. I’m begging you! Some nights are ridiculously stressful and involve criminals making decisions so unbelievably dumb that the only healthy response is laughing about it afterward. Being able to laugh together is important. A good sense of humor can carry a relationship through a lot and I have a weakness for people who know how to make me smile.
- Have your own life. Like seriously. Have friends, hobbies, goals, interests… go do things you’re passionate about. I don’t wanna be somebody’s entire universe. That’s too much pressure for anybody. The best relationships happen when two people bring full, interesting lives together.
- Be kind. Sounds silly, doesn’t it? But this one matters more than people realize. I happen to be very observant and pay attention to how people treat strangers or service workers or scared people or just someone who can’t offer them anything in return. Those moments tell me who someone really is. I mean anybody can be nice when it’s easy, but character shows up when it’s not.
- Let’s talk about food because people always ask. Yep, I like healthy food. Nope, that doesn’t mean every meal involves sadness and lettuce. The reality’s my schedule makes food complicated sometimes. Weekdays can be chaotic. Lunch often happens wherever I can fit it in. Dinner occasionally happens much later than it should. But whenever possible, I try to eat well because spending nights jumping across rooftops while living entirely on junk food is a terrible idea. To give you an idea about me, these are some lunches I genuinely enjoy: grilled chicken with vegetables and brown rice, a grain bowl with roasted vegetables, beans, greens and avocado, lentil salad with fresh vegetables, a turkey wrap with fruit, a big salad with chicken, nuts and a good dressing, etc. For dinner: grilled fish with rice and seasonal vegetables, chicken stir-fry loaded with vegetables, turkey chili, vegetable soup and fresh bread, roasted chicken with potatoes and vegetables, pasta with vegetables and homemade sauce, etc. And when I get free time I love cooking. A lot. To be honest, I wish I had more opportunities to do it because I think cooking’s relaxing. It’s one of the few things that completely pulls my attention away from everything else.
- I bake too. Okay, this deserves its own category because apparently people find it surprising, but it’s true: I love baking. Cookies, brownies, banana bread, blueberry muffins, coffee cake, cinnamon rolls, homemade bread… the problem isn’t interest but finding enough free weekends.
- Communication matters. To me it actually does. A lot. So please use actual words and don’t expect me to read minds or decode seventeen layers of hints. If something’s wrong or if you’re worried or if you’re upset, just tell me. Life gets complicated enough already.
- You might meet the Batfamily eventually. And that might be the most terrifying part of this entire list to some of you. Don’t get me wrong, they’re not bad people. They’re actually amazing. I mean they’re brave, loyal, smart, stubborn, protective and some of the best people I’ve ever known. The problem’s every single one of them has opinions. Lots of them. And if they realize you’re important to me, they’re gonna pay attention. And that means you’ll probably get questions and you’ll definitely get observed. Some of them will try very hard to be subtle, but some of them are physically incapable of being subtle. And hey, once they decide they like you… congrats! You just gained an entire collection of protective weirdos who’ll absolutely have your back, whether you asked for that or not.
- Patience helps. There’ll be nights when I’m exhausted, when I’ve barely slept or when Gotham has tested every ounce of patience I possess. I mean sometimes I’ll need quiet or rest or just somebody willing to sit next to me and exist for a while.
So what am I actually looking for? I’m not looking for perfection or superpowers or somebody who can fight twenty ninjas at once or somebody with unlimited money or somebody who thinks danger’s exciting… I know, all that's cool, but in any case it’d be an extra bonus. I'm happy with someone who’s kind, honest, funny, reliable, patient, supportive, someone who cares about other people… at the end of the day, that’s what matters.
I don't know, guys. Am I asking for too much? A girl can daydream, right?
Sorry for the long post. There are GCPD reports that are shorter than what I've written. But since you asked for the uncensored director's cut, here it is. I've spent all week writing this in bits and pieces until I finished it. I wanted to be honest with you and with myself, that's all. If you have any doubts, questions or are curious, feel free to ask. I'll answer them (if I can).
Aggressive note taking and scribbling
Yes ma'am, completely reasonable 100%, ofcourse.
Quick question- what are you thoughts on dogs?
...Specifically ones with superpowers that really like running around
And on that note is being a different species a dealbreaker for you?
Kara, those are extremely specific questions.
As for dogs, yeah, I love dogs. A superpowered dog that likes running around sounds like it’d be equal parts adorable and complete chaos, but mostly adorable.
And nope, being a different species isn’t automatically a dealbreaker for me. I’ve met enough aliens, metahumans and other unusual people over the years that I care a lot more about who someone is than what species they are. If they’re kind, honest and they care about other people, that’s gonna matter way more than whether they’re human or not.
What does your friend think about what I posted? Did they make it through all the points, or did they get distracted or bored halfway through?
You don't say? Good to know!
Oh they were veryyyyy interested, got through all of them ofcourse! Even took notes actually...not the best handwriting but it's the thought that counts right? Right. Yeah they're great. Tho they fluster realllyyyy easily. Isnt that funny? Haha.
