Behind every statistic are real people, families, and communities struggling to survive. Access to safe water is not a privilege; it is essential for dignity, health, and life.

I am reaching out with hope and a heart asking for solidarity. I am an LGBTQ+ refugee community leader, supporting LGBTQ+ people who are facing difficult conditions while seeking safety in a refugee settlement.

Many LGBTQ+ refugees are living without enough food, safe shelter, clean water, and access to basic needs. Despite everything, we continue to hold onto hope, dignity, and the belief that we deserve to live safely and freely.

Like a rainbow after a storm, our community is still standing. 🌈

I refuse to hide my identity or change my personality to fit someone else's expectations. Loving me is a choice. Hating me is a decision. I choose to live authentically, with courage, dignity, and hope.

🌈 Life in a refugee camp is not only about surviving each day — it is also about holding onto dignity, hope, and humanity.

Many people in our community continue facing difficult conditions and shortages that affect daily life. Access to clean water, food, medical support, and safe shelter remains an ongoing challenge.

No one should have to choose between safety and basic human needs.

Today, we raise our voices not for pity, but for awareness, solidarity, and support.

We hope for:

As an LGBTQ+ activist in a refugee setting 🏳️‍🌈, I carry stories that are heavy, but also full of courage. People here are not just surviving — they are trying to hold on to dignity, identity, and hope ✨

Sometimes activism is not speeches or big events. Sometimes it is listening to someone who has no one else 🤝. Sometimes it is simply staying alive and still believing change is possible 💔➡️💛

Grassroots activism is not always loud or visible. Sometimes it is quiet work — listening, supporting, sharing stories, and holding space for people who feel unseen or unsafe. It is showing up again and again, even when things feel heavy.

As a grassroots LGBTQ+ activist and refugee from Uganda currently living in Gorom, South Sudan, Pride has a different meaning for many of us. While some celebrate openly with parades and flags, many LGBTQ+ refugees continue to face fear, discrimination, and threats simply for being who they are.

This Pride Month, we stand together in spirit with our community around the world. Our visibility may come with risks, but our existence is not a crime. Our identities are valid. Our lives matter.

To everyone raising a Pride flag safely this month, know that your courage gives hope to LGBTQ+ people living in difficult circumstances. We dream of a future where every LGBTQ+ person can live freely, safely, and with dignity.
