We often have the inability to recognize the lack of our skills and knowledge. Without objective self-assessment, we are not able to plan and execute on our goals in the best possible way. Dunning–Kruger Effect Phases: 1// Initial Overwhelm 2// Peak “Mr. Stupid” 3// Valley of Despair 4// Slope of Enlightenment 5// Plateu of Mastery How to Take Advantage of Dunning–Kruger Effect? Balance Your Ups and Downs It’s also one of the entrepreneurship mantras. When you feel great, enjoy it, but don’t over-celeberate. It won’t be easy as this always. If you feel down in the dumps or the “Impostor Syndrome”, remember that’s part of the process. It just takes time. Be gentle with yourself.

1// Understand the Whole Picture. - Learn the basics, especially the business perspective. - By understanding the business goals, technical constraints, and product design value, you can leverage your skills and value. 2// Master Your Craft - First things first. Learn the hard skills. - It really matters, especially at
the beginning of the career.
Make sure that it’s challenging to
find a replacement for you and your skills. - It takes thousands of hours to become a master, but at the end of the day, that’s what matters. Better make sure you’re damn good. 3// T-Shaped Skills - When you see the whole picture, have an expertise in one aspect, start working on the soft and the complementary skills. - Want to learn more about T-shpaed skills? Check out the previous post. 4// Define Your Main Goal - You can’t succeed without a clearly defined goal. It’s the foundation of all the successful initiatives and the place where everything begins. 5// Find Role Models - Let’s be honest. T-shaped skills is one of the most essential concepts, especially in the Product Design industry. Being aware of that, you can design your professional path and consiously choose which skills do you need to acquire. How to take advantage of the 2 different dimensions of skills to grow professionally and become indispensable? There are 2 major dimentions of skills:
1/ Specialist 2/ Generalist By combination of these 2, you can become a T-skilled designer, and become a profile that most of the companies are looking for🔥 If you will spend 10+ years in the industry, at some point you might achieve the proficiency in many different aspects and become the "UX Unicorn". If you will do so - let me know! 😅 It's essential to understand clients or the employer's perspective on the two dimensions of skills. By the nature of work and challenges, startups often lean towards people that are good at many different aspects, while big corporation looks for experts. It’s not a rule, though, so always try to verify who they are looking for. How to find You Career Path? While some people prefer to be in the middle of everything (i.e., Product Managers or Product Owners), other love spending all day long in Figma, AE, or coding. By the end of the day, there are good or wrong answers — it’s all about you and where do you want to be in a few years. Choose wisely! What do you think?
