NANSEN is a magazine about migrants of all kinds.
Written with enthusiasm and respect for the migrantsâ stories, it celebrates one person per issue in a series of articles, joined by illustration and photography collabs.
The second edition revolves around the journey of Kalaf Epalanga: an Angolan musician and author who moved to the country that colonised his home, and using music, bridged the gap between Portugal and Angolan migrants.
Besides diving into his life and community, the magazine uses other individualsâ stories to reflect on the impact of migration on a bigger picture, offering an eye-opening history lesson about African migration in Europe.
âMigrants are, and always have been, explorers, entrepreneurs, visionaries, thrill-seekers and dreamers. Whether we move by choice, chance or force, we all have stories to tell.â Â A brief leaf-through NANSEN Magazine already brings us to this quote. We second that. It doesnât matter where in the world you call home; we all know someone who is coming or going, and thatâs part of our essence as human beings.
NANSEN Magazine will take Kalafâs journey all the way to Hamburg next September as part of the Indiecon Island Residency. We hope to see you there!
