I was talking to my moot recently about it and Zlatan just talked on screen about why footballers (or pro athletes in general) become fathers so early. I honestly think it's a bit insane with all the uncertainity and moving around, but he said it's often because that way they can completely switch off from pressure and their sport life, which I get. Kids demand another kind of presence than just a Partner, especially small ones.
And, on the other side and what probably will never confess: it's very conveniant for them too. Sleepless baby nights? They fuck off to a quiet hotel room every other week/day. Terrible two? Way easier to stomach when you have real breaks of several days in between tantrums. And so on.
I think being a parent to small kids with so many complete breaks must be heaven and I probably could have a couple more when I'd had that luxury. Not mentioning all the money for nannies, cleaners, chefs and "i need to sleep/nap go bother your mom" perks.
Why is arbitration bad?
It doesn't have to be *bad* but the whole procedure can cause a lot of damage to the relationship between franchise and player.
Basically the player has to present why they deserve X money, and then the org presents why he only deserves Y. They will list EVERY flaw, every mistake made, every stat that is against you. Every pressure situation the player didn't match. It's brutal.
There are many reports that players left the talks crying. Swayman was very open how he felt about it and how damaging it was - the next contract negotiatins ended up with swayman missing camp and his worst season.
Especially for a goalie I fear it might be especially damaging, given how much of their play relies on mental strength.
Good thing is most don't go the whole route to arbitration but find a solution before. I hope it's the same here, especially given there's no bond at all yet between Akira and the org.
What I forgot to mention, the good thing is that he's no longer offer sheet eligible, so no longer the threat of someone throwing 18 mill at him which definitely was a close one ;)

Akira Schmid has filed for arbitration. That's why it took so long. Well that will be fun and not demaging at all especially for a goalie. Swayman was absolutely thrilled with his procedure.
