I love looking at vinyl toys and especially kaiju toys but the prices of them are ridiculous. I used to want to design them some day butI wouldn’t want something I made to be that inaccessible. There’s almost no reason for it either, their materials don’t need to cost anything more than those dang Funko Pops or anything. It’s like they’re just arbitrarily limited and high priced to make them seem more desirable to a core fan base with exceptional amounts of disposable income, like Warhammer miniatures.

A lot of it’s chalked up to manufacturing costs- funko pops can be made on similar bases and are made en masse, whereas a lot of kaiju toys are hand painted and done in itty bitty batches (or done as one-offs). For a lot of them it’s not the materials, it’s the expertise and skill in painting them.

That said, Medicom’s vinyl artist gacha series is GREAT for getting a couple of cutie sofubi pieces for cheap. It’s a good way to get some of the really cute platforms without dropping the big bucks for ‘em. The Rangeron platform’s one of my favorites, and you can usually find VAG minis for less than ten bucks. Rotofugi, my fave place to buy vinyl from, has them for 7.95; I know that myplasticheart carries them, too.
