was watching mollystars's most recent deltarune stream and she pointed something out about friend that i havent seen a single other person in the deltarune theory sphere mention yet

this implication is fucking TERRIFYING. if friend can physically edit the map and mess with meta elements/the device layer itself, then our potential future encounter with them is going to be SCARY AS FUCK. everyone start getting afraid

#kag rbs #deltarune #deltarune spoilers #ok i have been thinking about this and imo it's very tied to FRIEND's appearance/abilities as an archetypal 'cheshire cat'#watching clips from the 1951 Alice in Wonderland film really helps highlight how much FRIEND is modeled after both that design & archetype #the depiction of the cheshire cat in that film has him appearing 'face first' on a dark background #and with oscillating yellow and pinkish/reddish eyes #there's a part where a crescent moon is in a totally dark sky. it rotates and becomes a smile and the rest of him appears with it #the cheshire cat is literally capable of appearing as just a floating face with no body #or even just a floating crescent grin with no eyes #he can come and go and appear and disappear at will. often face-first or face-last #and MOST importantly. the cheshire cat can actually alter the world and create passages that allow Alice to proceed through Wonderland #like literally earlier i was talking about this part in the film where Alice trapped in a fucking void in the Tulgey Wood right #because she's lost and can't get out and is crying because she feels like shit about herself and hopeless basically #and the cheshire cat appears and they talk and he makes an exit for her completely out of thin air #i'm not saying everything about FRIEND (or the FRIENDs if there are multiple) is benevolent bc of this but #if FRIEND is primarily based on the archetype of a cheshire cat. it might be worth noting that the cheshire cat is not wholly good or evil #in the 1951 film he's often a very confusing or even irritating figure because of how Not Understandable he is. he talks in circles #he'll give Alice directions that make no apparent sense. he will also open a passage for her when she's lost with no one else to help her #imo he even 'directs' her in less conventional ways by Instigating Events #near the end of the film he tricks the Queen into thinking Alice insulted her so that the whole kingdom would chase her #and that was a dick move. but what Alice wanted was to go home. and they chased her out of Wonderland. he made her a way home.#and as far as i've been able to tell. FRIEND fits most of the traits of a cheshire cat. they open and close passages #and they facilitate navigation in dark worlds-- worlds based on the subconscious minds and fantasies of their maker #so yeah idk. i think it means everything that the FRIEND in ch2 appears for just a split second before the teacup ride does #not just bc teacups happen to also be a big Alice in Wonderland motif but because FRIEND is likely the reason it appeared at all #it made a way for you to get where you wanted to go. you just happened to catch a glimpse of it before it disappeared #they get you to where you're going. for better or worse.
