Hey, not sure when you sent this as I haven’t checked my tumblr messages in a while but thank you to you and your boyfriend for reading my poems. I am definitely still writing and will hopefully be putting more work out into the universe. I follow quite a few poets on Tumblr, but I’m really bad at keeping track of them since Tumblr is a fast moving thing and I’ve had a bit of a long hiatus. But I admire anything that feels a little radical in the sense that it doesn’t necessarily read like a poem should. I read Poetry magazine, The White Review, The Quietus, anything by Jackie Kay for inspiration usually.
When people tell Azealia Banks or Kanye West to 'focus on the music' to me it just sounds like 'shut the fuck up and entertain us' I have a problem with that. With black people being seen as just 'entertainers'. We are a skilled and talented race but we are also a profoundly intelligent and opinionated race. POC have limited opportunities as it is to be vocal and it annoys me when we are told that our music or our art or our literature should be our main focus. It's a form of silencing. Dance, sing, rap but don't talk. Never talk.

I have literally lost count the number of times I have been stopped by police, but I remember the first time one drew his gun and pointed it at me.
