The setting:

2018, typical American young adult bedroom, early morning, fall, frost on the window pane (jk but wouldn't that be neat)

The characters in order of appearance:

RICKY, 20-something sole inhabitant of aforementioned bedroom, dressed in black band tshirt and unattractive thermal pajama bottoms, short white hair disheveled as if from restless sleep

CELL PHONE, a hand-sized black electronic device capable of accessing an unfathomable wealth of information, feels useless in a fast-paced modern age because owner RICKY only utilizes a small facet of his functionality, mainly the parts that facilitate online cooking supply shopping and Stephen King research

CHROMEBOOK, a lightweight laptop capable of converting to a touchscreen tablet and, as will soon become apparent, downloading torrents from the internet

THE FILE, an electronic document, weighing in at 148 kilobytes, capable of sowing destruction and mayhem the likes of which the Earth has not witnessed since the days when Oppenheimer's greatest shame cast its wretched hand over the western Pacific Ocean and made an Empire fall to its knees

Open on RICKY waking up, extracting themselves from under a pile of quilts (which look bespoke, possibly created by the MOTHER?, perfectly matching the room colors and decor, with its overarching theme of "outer space"). They immediately check the time on their CELL PHONE, then set down the CELL PHONE and reach for their CHROMEBOOK. While CELL PHONE is disappointed that RICKY does not care to view the local weather and news reports he has tailored to their selected interests and painstakingly prepared for them, as he does every morning, CELL PHONE remains silent. CHROMEBOOK'S screen is open but black as if turned off. We find that RICKY has cleverly been playing a long YouTube video of a black screen in order to keep the CHROMEBOOK on overnight while not creating any light that might disturb their sleep. When RICKY minimizes the black screen, we find a torrent client optimized for the CHROMEBOOK. Due to the speed at which RICKY navigates the user interface, we can tell that they have used this client frequently, but there is only one torrent on the list. This is because, upon downloading torrents to completion, RICKY does not seed. RICKY does not like seeding. RICKY is not a considerate pirate.

The only torrent present on the list is a well-loved but short-lived early 1990s Nickelodeon kids' television show. It is 100% completed. RICKY navigates to the file location where the torrent is kept on CHROMEBOOK'S hard disc to inspect the files. They find folders separating the episodes by season, and then...an extra FILE which, due to the half-puzzled and half-intrigued expression on their face, RICKY clearly did not expect.

The extra FILE is called "Libertarian Socialist Revolution, The.txt"

RICKY immediately comprehends the situation. The author of the torrent has seen fit to shoehorn what will no doubt his worthless, nonsensical, contradictory, asinine attempt at a political dissertation into an otherwise entertaining bit of pirating. Nothing out of the ordinary. The Pirate Bay can be a strange and wonderful place, and files like these are part of what make it so. The tone changes when RICKY realizes that they must make a choice.

RICKY seems to weigh the risks of opening this file, knowing it might contain information that is better left unseen by human eyes, knowing that there are some secret thoughts (eg. "Sometimes I think that I would make a really great alcoholic.") and feelings (eg. a long-held sexual attraction to certain remarkably well-written space aliens) and especially manifestos (see above) that are better kept to oneself. RICKY recognizes that their life has gone off just fine up to this point, and things have only just become difficult upon meeting THE FILE. It is as if, in looking at the title of THE FILE, they are looking at their destiny, their raison d'etre, perhaps even Fate herself. CHROMEBOOK'S screen goes slightly dimmer, as if to symbolize the time ticking away, the indelible passage of 14 seconds, 5 minutes, 3 hours that have marched on ever forward even as RICKY paused their file exploration in order to begin writing this script.

RICKY makes a choice. They double-click on THE FILE.
