a collection of life drawings including the still life model drawings from sylvias class on thursday
Life drawings from Thursday
a collection of life portraits from over the course of the week, from various spots around the college and the city.
Artist research: Eric Fischl
I was recommended to look at the glassine ink and oil paint drawings by Eric Fischl, who would layer different drawings over eachother to create the composition. I'm really interested in the collage-like visual effect of his works.

This week I was interested in continuing the theme of life ink drawing from last week. I created ink drawings of the objects we have been using for this project so far, aswell as a life drawing session out in peoples park.
On Thursday afternoon we created life drawing portraits using charcoal and ink. I drew the poses quickly so I tried experimenting with line and shape as I redrew them over and over, getting more abstract as it developed.
For our first week of painting we were asked to bring in large and colourful objects to create a construction from, and then we were tasked with creating thumbnail sketches of the construction to plan a painting for.
The painting exercise was to capture the composition of our chosen thumbnail through the basic shapes and colours of it rather than the detail.
Movement Project
Self assessment
I demonstrated an ability to work independently and develop my ideas through experimentation throughout the different electives. I had some difficulty with the time constraints around our initial idea development but I managed to create work I am happy with.
I stuck mostly with 2D materials and media as I knew from the start that is what I'm interested in, however I did explore different styles of application; such as using different line thickness and texture, and I think using ink and charcoal helped support those experiments.
I researched different artists with the help of my lecturers to broaden my creative scope. Initially from the fashion elective I was interested in researching gothic style however as I developed my ideas further I ended up becoming influenced by the expressionism movement and it's artists.
I was primarily trying to depict texture and line weight through my project which I think I managed to do efficiently. With the short amount of time I had I didn't get to expand on my ideas as much as I wanted however. I think that the work I did for the fashion elective best shows my conceptual thinking.
This project gave me alot to learn about self-motivation and time management. There was guidance and advice given by lecturers however the majority of the project was self-motivated and I believe all the work I've created shows my own initiative to the project.
I did not have much difficulty bridging my three elective areas as I primarily worked in 2D so my initial drawings and sketches were relevant throughout the entire project. I did discover that I enjoyed different elements of the electives I was not expecting to.
Paul Klee (1879-1940) was a swiss-german painter highly influenced by expressionism and surrealism. i was suggested to look at several artists and found i was most interested in Klee's work because of his use of colour and thin lined illustration contrasted with his patchwork style colours.

paintings i created in the painting room this week with full progress, influenced by the ink thumbnails i created in the week before reading week.
the first and third painting were inspired by the imagery of the folded boot, while the second was a more abstract piece trying to resemble foot prints and track marks.
Walter Sickert was a British painter and print-maker who was well-known for his impressionist nude paintings.
I was recommended to research this artist and I was particularly interested in his use of thick brushstrokes to depict light and dark contrasting tones in the composition of his pieces.
Painting week 1 work. I expanded on ideas from my print elective by creating ink thumbnail drawings which will hopefully be turned into paintings during my next painting elective week. I photocopied curtain hooks to use for investigative drawings.
I also took part in the life painting exercise on Thursday morning. I struggled alot with the time limitations because it made it difficult to capture the form of the model properly but I think the finished piece came out decent enough.
This is my work from the second week of print, including my wood block prints. We missed a day of work due to the bank holiday, so I only managed to make one woodblock print this week, unfortunately. It was inspired by a drawing I created during my fashion elective which featured lots of different lines that translated interestingly into the print.
This is my first week of print work. We used a process called electro-etching to create the prints. I further developed my initial drawings of the shoe I used in my fashion elective to create print designs.

Artist research: Mana
Mana is a Japanese musician and fashion designer, most well-known for being the guitarist of Malice Mizer, aswell as for his gothic lolita fashion brand Moi-même-Moitié, which he established in 1999.
The brand consists of elegant victorian-esque dresses, often modelled by Mana himself.
These pieces were a large inspiration in my own designs.
