I’m now at the final stage before printing the posters. This post shows what I hope is the final version.

David Milan

The way he mixes graphic design and motion feels very fresh to me. Even though his style doesn’t match my project exactly, I still find it inspiring because I simply love graphic design.

This week we started working on the final version of the A3 poster using Photoshop and Illustrator.

I experimented with different images and some of the results felt more successful than others.

In my opinion, the concept with the tree and its roots looks more appealing and easier for the viewer to understand. I also like the colours I used.

I really like the work of Mack Signs, a signwriting and mural painting studio led by Cormac Dillon. Their style feels bold, creative, and full of character, especially the way they use type and lettering.

I explored roots and trees growing from the mind, reminding us to stay connected: don’t forget your roots.

I instantly fell in love with Timothy Goodman’s style the moment I saw it.

His bold use of typography, strong contrast, bright colors, playful hand-drawn elements, it all speaks so loudly and confidently. There’s something very personal and expressive in the way he works with letters and messages, and I really connect with that.

His work reminded me of my own interest in using type as a visual voice. One of my posters for the Anthropocene project already includes a typographic layer, and seeing his work made me realize how much I actually enjoy experimenting with type and turning it into a graphic language.

I feel like his style fits really well with the direction I’m going in expressive, meaningful, emotional, and visually energetic. I’ll add some of my favorite examples of his work below.

Thinking about colours for my Anthropocene project. Right now, I’m drawn to magenta (maybe with a violet touch) and a bright yellow-green. Magenta feels a bit toxic and intense like danger or warning, while the yellow-green reminds me of something alive, fresh, and growing.

Steve Cutts.

I recently watched Man by Steve Cutts and it really stayed with me. It’s a short animation that shows how humans treat nature, using dark humor and sarcasm.

It made me think about how we deal with big problems like climate change and the Anthropocene. Sometimes, when you feel like you can’t change anything, your mind tries to protect itself. Humor becomes a way to handle it, to make it feel a bit lighter.

That’s why I like this kind of sarcastic view. It’s not just funny, it’s also real. It takes self-awareness to be able to laugh at our own mistakes.

If you haven’t seen it, I think it’s worth watching. It’s uncomfortable, but in a way that makes you reflect.

This task was to create a stylescape (which used to be called a mood board). It’s a way to collect colours, images, and ideas that match the feeling or message of a design.

We recently made A3 posters using different materials and the collage method. The main idea was to practice creating a layout, but instead of doing it digitally, we worked by hand, using an analogue approach.
