Final Poster Design After getting different opinions on the last poster decisions I decided for this piece staying with the yellow colour on the top of the design. I’m very happy with the outcome of this design!
Colour and Layout Selection
After the process of arranging the type and images over and over I came back to an earlier version I had already and asked different people of their opinion which version they liked the best. I documented the outcome so far under each version.
Which version of the poster do you think is the best out of these four?
Working Process
I documented my work process over the steps I took on my poster design. (It’s better to zoom in on the single photos to read what I wrote.)
Type studies
I was looking at different variations of type I had in Affinity Designer and downloaded of dafont.

Colour studies
Here I was looking at different colour variations I could use for my final poster design.
Memories
I was looking at different photos I had of important memories and made sketches of them in my idea development. I took the three best ones and brought them into the digital version. Here is the photos compared to the simple line versions.
Some approaches digitally with the colours of my moodboards and the research I did to this point. I played around with the layouts and type placement with the loose approach of the memories I searched out.
Thumbnails & Idea Sketches
I made some new thumbnails to see how I could include the Fragments theme better or how to show it more. Sharon was helping me out then with saying that my thumbnails could be also a layout in terms of looking at the lines I used and that I could arrange my type and visual approaches to that.
I looked for memories I could include in my poster as well and thought about how I’d manage to include them in my theme. I was inspired by my research and used a loose style to visualise them and use them in a more clear and less complicated look on the poster.
Research Design by Ste Murry & Kyle Cheldon Barnett This really inspires me. The illustration in the background is loose and not with straight line and you would think it is too much like a scribble but you can see what it means and is in good harmony with the simple shaped type that was used to smooth up the design. This might be of use to my project in terms of the fragments that I will be creating. I could make the fragments clear shapes and the symbols in it squiggly and loose.

Grace Enemaku
“She specialises in creating and shaping brands that people want to obsess over and building rich, imaginative worlds within her work.” She is based in Dublin and works on projects for Facebook to local art for Dublin Vinyl and Hen’s Teeth.
For my story project I’m focusing on fragments of time and this work by Grace Enemaku might be a possible direction I am taking. Simple shapes packed with memories and small illustrations.
This also inspired my thumbnail sketches in the last post.

Thumbnails
I went further on with my thumbnailing process playing around with type a bit and going to exhaust the ideas of an open door and fragments shown as memories looking back at good times.
I was thinking that I could just let the door slip into the design that it won’t be the main focus and that I would be able to set the focus on photos lying on the ground showing memories/fragments of time.
For the fragments in the other thumbnails I thought of photos in some slots and maybe type over it or even in one of the fragments as well.
I took the colour palettes from my Moodboards but I think I’m going to reduce the colour selection due to many colours and I don’t won’t it to become too much for the viewer as well as I like it more simple.

Very inspiring in the idea of creating new ways to show typography and combining it with poster designs. I really like these playful attempts on typography and it shows that it doesn’t always have to be so strict as it seems.

Xtian Miller
I love the simplicity of Xtian works. Simple but really effective. The approach of the pink poster design “Overwhelming exception” written on it. It’s a very interesting approach and when I think about my project I could play around with a combination of this style of typography in the foreground and something else in the background letting it be layered. His website is an experience on it’s own.

David Carson
After Sharons typography workshop I was interested in looking up more works of the listed artists and stopped at David Carsons website. His flow in his work is so free, unique with no limits regarding the line up of the type. It’s really inspiring and refreshing seeing this because when I try to arrange everthing digitally it always hast to be on the same hight and is never layering on each other. I want to experiment more in that way and maybe it will help me in my project!

Thumbnails
As a starting point Sharon was holding a workshop in thumbnails that I attended and sketched out the first few thumbnails in a short time frame.
I was not too satisfied about the outcome of it so I sat down to sketch out more and I’m getting more and more ideas how my project could look like.
I’m still not where I want to be right now and still not 100% satisfied but I know I’m on the right trail and maybe I can combine some of them. And add some colour to the next ones.
If any of the other students are interested to give me feedback on the ones they like then it would actually help me if you could text me here.
Type-Research
Today’s workshop with Sharon in GDC was about typography and she asked us to look through our environment to see where we can find different styles of type.
I was just going into my kitchen and found loads of different fonts laughing at me so here you can see my collection of ones I chose.
I really like the simple type of my green jumper with the text “Lake Tahoe” on it. Very clean very simplistic!
