My final lineup
When two worlds collide, that was the theme of my project. It was difficult for me to decide on my first world (a person) as I find many people in different ways inspiring. I went with Constance Markievicz because of her unshakeable determination to fight for what she believed in. She was a pioneer for women during a time that was unstable. One of my favourite quotes of hers was : "Dress suitably in short skirts and strong boots, leave your jewels in the bank and buy a revolver". The mention of short skirts and strong boots with the combination of her rebel-like quality led me on to my second world (a time period), the 70's. I focused more specifically on the birth of punk during this time. It was loud, angry and fast. Full of bands such as the New York Dolls, Suicide and The Ramones. Fashion for them was a statement, bold and sent a message. 40 years old and it still influences many of the indie and alternative movements of today. It was the idea of being authentic, that if you stayed true to yourself and dressed however you pleased that soon the world would follow after you. And that was always something I could get behind.
I mainly put my attention towards their leather jackets, specifically the collars. I found inspiration behind Markievicz's uniforms and elegant dresses she wore. And also leaned towards aspects of bondage and deconstruction.
There were many mark making processes that went into this project, like experimenting with different materials such as cardboard, plastic, duct tape, the protective paper that came with my shoebox. I also traced, reshaped, resized many of the elements from the sources I took for research. Placing them in different areas and positions to see what worked.
There were many challenges but in the end I'm happy with what I've come up with and overall I had a lot of fun with it.
Some late night sketching. Taking inspiration from Joan Jett.
Some collar exploration in continuation of my cardboard collar I made. Collars were such a huge statement piece during the 70's not only for punk but with fashion in general. Always loved a good bold collar!

I chose Constance Markievicz as my figure regarding my fashion project due to her fascinating story and what she stands for. I wanted someone who was an inspiration to not just women but in particular Irish women. I found her inclusion in the Easter Rising and the wealth she gave to the less fortunate to be very inspiring. She was the female rebel of her time. Which is why I found her to be a perfect fit for my 70's punk theme.
Line and structure, I'm exploring tartan as it's one of the most iconic patterns and staples of the punk era. Using tape, ribbon and shoelaces to experiment.
Collage made up of punk posters, fashion and icons from the 70's. All the things that inspire me.
Decided to put all the leftover cardboard boxes from my spending sprees to good use and take this collar obsession to the NEXT LEVEL. More progress tomorrow.

Collars, makes a powerful statement in it's own right, so many varieties that I have been fascinated by. Using different materials to experiment with how folds work. Lot's of fun!

Photo's from the workshop I went to on Tuesday. Really enjoyable actually and I found that I was able to apply a lot of the skills I learnt from Blind Drawing to this workshop also.
