An A5 portrait of my friend Mary

(It’s dio from jojo’s bizarre adventure for those that aren’t aware)

I did a presentation on Katherine Bernhardt. Here are four of my favourite paintings. For each person, the association with each image will be different, depending on what they relate the objects and colours to. For me, two of these make me happy because they remind me of happy times, and the other two don’t, but I still like them. “Windex + Cigarettes + Basketball” make me feel refreshed and motivated, “Plantains + Bananas + Doritos + Sharpies” creative, “Laptops + Cellphones + Telephones + Plantains” trapped, and “Hamburgers + French Fries + Basketballs” happy and restless. The experience is different for everyone because everyone has unique memories and associations.

Kasia from the polish movie Kogel-Mogel (1988). I used her as a reference in some of my paintings. The beauty standards in Poland in the 80s look more like me than modern beauty standards. That’s probably just because I’m Polish myself but it’s nice to see pretty people that look like you whether they are old moviestars or your grandparents.
