In the final 6 looks I combined the two worlds together to create a unique and striking line up. I wanted to create 6 looks that are colourful, funky and stand out.

The 6 looks together.

A jumpsuit I created using the pattern I drew a while ago based on the 80’s. I only wanted to put the pattern on the top half of the jumpsuit as I didn’t want it overpowering the outfit - as they say less is more.

This outfit consists of a skirt created from the shape of Fonda’s hairstyle outline, a shirt which shape was taken from one of Barbarellas costume also it has the shape of the leotards that were worn in the 80’s, a jacket with studs and a belt. I tired to make this outfit very 80’s with its colours, I also added a Madonna hairstyle to complete it.

Neon and bright colours were used a lot during the 80’s. Colour brings a whole design together and catches your eye so it is so important to choose colours that suit what you’ve created. I’ve researched 80’s fashion and colour and I’ve tried my best to apply what colours I think bring the 80’s back the life in my outfits.

This outfit contains shapes from the barbarella costumes, I have taken tracings from interesting parts of Fonda’s costumes from this movie and made them into my own designs. I have created trousers with a unique bottom, belt and a top with fluffy sleeves.

Experimenting with the shapes I like and placing them on the body in different places to see where I think they fit best.

This is a dress I created from the outline shape of Fonda’s hair. I overlapped this shape to create a dress which is tapered in at the waist. The overlapping of this shape creates a fluffy texture which I love. I used the colour pink, trying to get a really bright pink colour then used a darker shade for the edges and the waist to add definition.

I have been looking at many of Diana’s amazing outfits she wore over the course of her life but the look in particular that interests me the most is her blazer suits/dresses/jackets. I love a blazer and I want to incorporate them into my lineup. They were very popular in the 80’s as she is an fashion icon from this period.

Barbarella is a famous science fiction film from the late 60’s staring Jane Fonda. It was the first film that started her fame as a young woman. The main aspect of this movie that draws my attention isn’t just the fact the Fonda stars in it, it’s also the many incredible costumes that she wears throughout the film. Paco Rabanne, the Spanish fashion designer created these amazing costumes which are very furturistic and funky. I just love all the outfits Fonda wears in this film and I have been looking closely and tracing the shapes that I could use for my own lineup.

I haven’t added colour to any of these designs yet as I like to explore with shape first and then follow with colour when I have figured out where I’m going with the designs.

I then made the shapes bigger and smaller to see what I could create with them and how they would fit on the body.

I then moved on from the doodles because the shapes were mostly from my head and not from actual shapes within my project, in saying that I will definitely use then when I’m looking at colour. I traced over the shapes of Fonda’s poses for her exercise videos and also the outfits Fonda wore during her performance in ‘Barbarella’. Then I overlapped both to see what shapes the created, I didn’t find anything I was that interested in. Because the shapes from her Barbarella costume are already complete outfits I decided to focus on the shapes from Fonda’s excerising poses. A lot of odd shapes came out of tracing her poses as they’re very extravagant, but that’s what I love!

For the next deadline on shape and line, I started to look at 80’s aesthetic ‘patterns and shapes’ and I doodled my own sequins of shapes that I thought were interesting and very ‘80’s’.
