Jai Chaturvedi|Human|35 Years Old|Police Officer
Jai grew up in St Albans, just on the outskirts of London,England. He is the eldest of four and the only son to Dr Dev and Dr Priya Chaturvedi. His father, a therapist running his own clinic in Greater London and his mother, the head of gynaecology at The Royal London Hospital, were well respected in their fields which meant they were able to provide their children with a comfortable upbringing. Although their jobs kept them very busy they did what they could to ensure their kids were looked after and even had a live in nanny to provide care for the kids when they were busy at work. Ms Cunningham was family to the Chaturvedi’s. Jai and his sisters felt like they had the luxury of three parents whilst growing up. His parents instilled a hard working ethos into their kids, encouraging education and the exploration of learning, in the pursuit of careers that aided and helped make a positive contribution to society. They were not strict on what their kids wanted to be only that it bettered them and the community in someway. Ms C on the other hand encouraged the kids to have fun and to better themselves through their interests and passions, inspiring them to join clubs and learn new skills outside the classroom.
Him and his sisters all had various interest and hobbies which meant the house was always chaotic and there was always some event or show to attend. His parents rarely attended any due to their conflicting work schedules but Ms C was at every single performance and event, cheering them on. Jai’s interests were varied and some a little questionable to his parents, who didn’t see how joining the comic book club or a fantasy game league would really help there son but they allowed it since he always did well in school and they figured he would loose interest eventually. Despite his parents reservations, it was actually his love of comic books that inspired the career he wanted to pursue. Reading the likes of Spider-Man, Captain America, Superman and Batman, Jai grew up wanting to be a superhero. Of course he knew superheroes didn’t exist in the real world the same way they did in the comic books but he knew that all superheroes wanted to protect and fight for justice and despite flaws they may have had they ultimately tried to do good.
He had considered joining the army but didn't have the discipline required to join and part of him did not like the idea of war and the unnecessary deaths that it caused. Jai knew there was a better way to achieve what he wanted, to be able to do good and right without leaving chaos in his wake. It was when he attended a jobs fair at collage that the answer came to him, when he found the local police at a stall, everything just clicked into place. Jai’s parents were a little unsure of their sons choice of career, especially since he wouldn’t be going to university but Jai’s passion convinced them it was the right move. After all Jai would still be contributing to society and he proved he didn’t need a degree to do that. Jai finished up collage and applied for the police, he didn’t get in the first time he applied due to the sheer volume of applicants but Jai kept trying.
Jai got a job in the meantime, working as a support worker caring for those with mental health and learning disabilities. The job appealed to him not only cause he could sill help but he hopped the experience would help when he got into the police. Jai ended up being a support worker for six months before he got into the police and he was grateful for the experience but excited to start his career. He took too to like a duck to water and worked hard at training and once he passed his training he settled into his role of working for the Metropolitan police.
Jai loved his life in London. He was still close with his family, despite all of them having demanding jobs they tried to get together at least once a month for a family night, Ms C included. He enjoyed his job, he still hung out with some of the same friends he had in collage, made new ones in the force and was somewhat successful with relationships. But something was missing, Jai felt like he could do more. His boss always told him that that was a sign he was a good officer as he always wanted to do more, do good.It wasn’t until many years later that Jai found an opportunity to be that good. When the world found out about supernatural, it changed, there was chaos, anger and support coming from all different directions.Jai was a supporter his love for the superhuman easily extended to the supernatural and he wanted to do everything he could to aid in the transition. His family thought he was crazy when he said he was going to move to America to help but they also could tell they weren’t going to stop him. Just like that Jai found himself packing up and moving. He knew it wouldn’t be as simple as moving and getting right into the action, he knew he had to go through immigration and additional training just to successfully transfer to be an officer in the states but Jai was ready for the challenge. Before he knew it he would be starting his life again, in Saintes.
Do good to others and every man can be a Superman.
