rafe cameron x nerd!reader
summary: being rafe cameron's stepsister would be hell for anyone, but for a girl like her? he'd make it worse.
a/n: hi, iāve never written anything ever but i kind of had this idea. i hope u like it! i hope i donāt end up writing anything too dark, but my thoughts do go there sometimes so idk (brace for it just in case, i guess?Āæ). this is just a preview, ācause i want to see if people would like to read it or not. also, as cliche as it is, english is not my first language so iām sorry if there are any mistakes lmao. i donāt know how this fic will go, but if there are any warnings necessary at some point, donāt worry, iāll place them before the chapter! i do plan to have smut in this but only as the story progresses, as fun as it can be i donāt want it to be the main focus for this particular story. the povs will probably change throughout the story but i'm not sure yet!
warnings: psychological abuse, emotional abuse, angst, misoginy, dark!rafe, obsessive behavior, step-siblings, toxic family dynamics, eventual sexual content
She didnāt get it, why her stepbrother seemed to resent her so much. I mean, she and her mom did intrude on his life all of a sudden ā but it wasnāt her fault, she didnāt want it to happen either. So she tried not to be loud and obnoxious about it, barely making her presence known since she was 16, walking quietly and talking even more so.
It wasnāt all bad though, she enjoyed spending time in her room, skipping through book pages, mostly biographies or feminist manifestos. At nineteen, she was an avid reader and a passionate learner, devouring books as if they were her only means of survival ā they kind of were. Without them, sheād be depressed; it is as simple as that. No place to hide from her intruding thoughts.
Her quiet demeanor made Rafe Cameron flare with anger. Three long years of her presence had felt like hell to him, because why on earth would he be accepting of someone who doesnāt share his blood ā let alone someone who he deemed as inferior ā living under the same roof as him as if they belonged there? The more she made herself smaller, the more she kept getting quieter ā the more his contempt for her grew. He hated how weak she seemed, how every time heād look at her sheād shrink under his gaze, and how when he talked to her, her reply would reach his ears in the shape of a whisper.
He was the opposite, loud and proud to be so. People worshipped the ground he walked on, and he felt like he deserved it. Truth was, most of them were just too scared to ever say ānoā to the guy. āBetter to be on his side, than against himā, some would say. And it was true, he could ruin anyoneās life if he felt like it ā and he always felt like it. For a man who feels boredom as much as he does, making others suffer as the only source of pleasure made sense. It was entertaining.
He couldnāt do that to her, not because he didnāt want to ā believe me, he thought about it way more than he, or any mentally stable person, should ā but he knew heād face consequences from Ward, his iron fist dad, so it was better not to risk it, or at least not be blatant about it when it became inevitable. He knew heād break her eventually, just didnāt know when.
He needed an opportunity, and oh how lucky, heād finally have one. Thanks to Wheezie. As annoying as his little sister was he was very thankful to her in that moment, she was the one who decided doing an exchange program in Germany would be an enriching experience, and Ward couldnāt let his little girl go by herself, not when he had the means to go with her, dragging the rest of his family along and turning it into some wholesome 6-month family vacation. God, how pathetic, Rafe thought, as if this werenāt a sick way to not lose control of his youngest and most beloved daughter. He couldnāt help but roll his eyes at how no one else noticed how controlling Ward was about his family. But he didnāt care, not really, what he did care about, though, was that heād be alone with his stupid stepsister for a really long time, he couldnāt be more thrilled.
And she? Well, she couldnāt be less. Sheād go with the rest of the family if she could, of course she would, but her college year was just starting, so she was stuck on the island. And so was her angry sociopathic older stepbrother who was given the responsibility of taking care of business while Ward didnāt return. It wasnāt even a difficult job, looking at a laptop for three hours and sending emails for people whoād do his job for him. Ward had it easy. And so would Rafe, she thought.
She knew Rafe hated her with all of his willpower, he couldnāt conceal it if he tried. She also knew he had an affinity for breaking things for fun, and when it got boring heād break people too. She knew how cruel and, dare I say it, how evil he could be. She couldnāt know, though ā and even if she did, she couldnāt prevent it ā how miserable Rafe Cameron would make her.
