Creepypasta #769: I Shouldnāt Have Driven Drunk
Length: Medium
ā
I saw the flashing of blue and red in my rear view mirror. Shit, I thought as I pulled over on the side of the road. It was dark out, early morning, and Iād been drinking at a friendās house.
āI need you to blow in this,ā he said, and shoved a breathalyzer in my face. āThatāll do.ā he said as he waited for the result.
āOfficer, Iām sorry, I only had one beer about an hour ago-ā
āNot according to this, you didnātā he cut me off. There was no way out of this. I knew I was going to get thrown in the tank and lose my licence.
āOfficer, if you just let me drive home I promise it wonāt happen againā. As he pulled on a pair of black, leather gloves, he began speaking:
āYou know, I donāt care if drunks idiots like yourself drive home and kill yourselves. I do care if you hurt someone else. Let me tell you a story: When I was a rookie I let a guy just like you drive home even though he blew over the limit. On his way back he hit two kids playing in the street; both died on impact. I hate drunk drivers.ā
I was incensed by his story, and the implication that I was some kind of child killer simply because I decided to get myself home after a night out instead of taking a cab. I figured I had nothing to lose anyway.
āLook officer, that'sĀ yourĀ problem. If youāve got some vendetta against drunk drivers leave it at the door, and if that story is true then maybe you shouldnāt even be a cop.ā
āThose are some astute observations,ā he said, unholstering his pistol. Why didnāt I stop somewhere well lit? āAnd youāre certainly right about one thing,ā Somewhere I could see his badge? It was too late.
āIām not a copā.
