Since they ride each horse closer to 35 km, they tend towards a much faster pace between horse stations, of which there are 28. Horses vet in, are checked for heart rate returned to resting rates. Riders get penalties for horses that are lame or whose heartrate doesn't drop fast enough. From there, they draw another horse and have to get used to each other all over again. They can choose to rest where and when they want, but they are only allowed to ride from 7 am - 7 pm. If they come into a center after that time, they serve a penalty in the morning. They might choose to push on after time to avoid sleeping on the range.

Charlie Hill’s comedic approach to the Oneida story is part of a long lineage of storytellers and historians defying stereotypes that includes Oscar Archiquette, a young Oneida working construction when the Federal Writers’ Project came to Wisconsin in the 1935.
