Just Donkeys Seulement Ânes

Firstly apologies for the lack of posts recently. Donkey daddy number 1 has been ill in hospital due to complications of his Cystic Fibrosis. After 45 years of physio and medication his body could no longer take any more. It’s with a heavy heart that I have to announce that Timonk passed over the Rainbow bridge to look after the many donkeys (buns) in the sky. He died peacefully on Tuesday October 6th 2018 at 2:55pm. He leaves 4 beautiful boys Oscar, Harvey, Jasper and Ben. Here is the footage of them saying goodbye, Tim wanted his body brought to the buns but unfortunately that couldn’t happen. I lay his cloths that he had on in the hospital to sniff. While I figure out our future I am unable to work as the boys need looking after, I also work in end of life communication skills training in the healthcare sector. Someone’s trying to tell us something!

🐴❤️ A message to all our Dear Donkeys following Just Donkeys! ❤️🐴

First, a big thank you 🙏🏻 for being our loyal supporters and ambassadors, spreading the word and helping people understand and break misinformed stereotypical views of these loyal, loving, sentient, social and hugely intelligent equines.

In other parts of the world, they remain the hardest working and cruelly treated of ALL domesticated animals in the world, living short lifespans of 10* years, which I find very distressing.

(* By comparison a cared for Donkey in the 🇬🇧 typically lives to 32 years and some even live to 50!)

Donkeys from loving homes demonstrate good mental health, are stoical, empathic, curios, loyal and faithful, love human company and, like people, possess unique personalities and are immensely entertaining; never failing to amaze and amuse their grooms with interest and intelligence.

So, JDs write to you all today to thank you for your continued support and being Donkey advocates.

We also apologise 😐 for not having posted for a few weeks. This is because JDs is moving location to new and better pastures 🏡 for both Donkeys 🐴🐴 and Human Donkeys 👫 alike!

This is no easy task for donkeys, their welfare kit, building their essential new (albeit temporary) secured accommodations while their new made to measure home is under construction. Another big consideration was the complicated logistics of moving a pace of donks in a tight schedule, and the short term dual costs associated in managing two spaces.

JDs has continued support of The Donkey Sanctuary throughout.

☘️🌿Hedgerow Haul🌿☘️

The Donks love browsing among hedgerows and have found a feast haul of Galium Acarine commonly known as Sticky Jack / Weed, Cleavers, or Goose grass.

Another common name is Velcro weed, full of fibre, vitamin C, citric acid and contains flavonoids, there is mild caffeine in the cleavers. This plant can be steamed before the cleavers appear as a vegetable dish or dried to make a tea made which cleanses the lymphatic system.

MARJORIE!

Marjorie is a 25 year old donk who lives at Paccombe, a centre for elderly donkeys. She suffers badly from fly nuisance to her legs at this time of year; traditional fly repellents were proving insufficient.

The Donkey Sanctuary did some coaching with Marjorie to allow her to wear socks! The Donkey Sanctuary produced these fabulous striped socks 🧦 which solved the problem and soothed her. As the biting insects can no longer get to her sensitive skin, she is much more calm and less irritated because she’s not constantly moving / snapping at her legs to chase the bothersome insects away.

RIPPLE.

Meet Ripple, a glorious coloured mocha donkey. He is famously known for his wobbly bottom lip that goes slack and wobbly when he’s happy and relaxed, which is pretty much all the time! He’s part of a herd of donkeys at The Donkey Sanctuary, Leeds. He has many many admirers. We At JDs have had the good fortune to meet him in person.
