We have this idolized AND sanitized version of what happened then, and so we do not recognize it when it happens now.

Resistance fighters assassinated nazis and blew up weapons and infrastructure and destroyed records and forged paperwork and raised secret funds and smuggled people in vehicles and yes, hid them in their homes.

Whoever helped him fake his paperwork did what fighters in ww2 did. People who cut through chain link fences do what fighters in ww2 did, people who blow whistles chasing after ice cars do what fighters in ww2 did, people who destroy arms factories and cop city cranes do what fighters in ww2 did, people unmask agents do what fighters in ww2 did.

People are doing it now! They’ve been doing it now! You keep saying “oh if this happened here__” it HAS! It IS!

The OSS, while not the CIA, and was adept at recruiting people on the ground in German-occupied territories, was still in the business of controlling narrative and deputizing rather than encouraging wider liberation.

The more specific elements of the book are dated, although much of the general principles still apply or can be reapplied for modern use.

That being said, as Ive stressed before and will again, this post is not an invitation for folks in the notes to say what they will get up to, nor is it even a specific call to any particular action. Rather, it is a plea for individuals to reframe how they view struggle.

If one is as quick to condemn action taken for liberation sake as they are to declare what they ‘would do,’ they are not the rebel they think they are.

There are many seemingly passive acts of resistance: letting things fall into disrepair, leaving doors unlocked, “forgetting” to document something , “losing” documents, and there are more “aggressive” forms, but every single action found to be intentional is barred as illegal, and publicly condemnable.

My goal is not “tell me what youre doing” or even “go do x”, it is to have fewer people fall for the idea that clearly-defined-as-illegal activities are morally wrong, and that we can only applaud action so long as “they didn’t even break any laws.”

US Citizens are killed and it sparks outrage, but non-citizens killed are met with silence, because the majority of Americans buy into the idea that there is something “illegal” about an immigrant’s presence, and that illegality can or even should be punished to the most severe extent.

stop buying into the idea that nonviolent activism is useless, rather than (by far) the most effective form of protest

stop falsely claiming that BLM accomplished nothing and that most citizens “don’t care” when people are murdered by the state

start understanding that most of your neighbors care about your rights, and their own

It's a program that helps disabled folks access education, training, and employment. For FREE.

You only have to be disabled to qualify (autism, ADHD, mental illness, physical illness, etc) and they cover very broad categories of disability. You do NOT have to be officially diagnosed yet when you walk in - they will even help pay for your diagnosis if you are struggling w disability.

I applied with my suspected autism and fibromyalgia, and they paid for 100% of my formal autism assessment.

Once your disability is established they will give you career counseling to learn about your interests and skills, and depending on the plan you create with your caseworker they will then help with school or finding employment. They paid for 100% of my college tuition and books, and even provided a laptop for me to use.

You do not have to pay anything for this program. If you make above a certain income, you will have to contribute to educational costs but will still receive assistance.

They will also help with the cost of things like mental health counseling while you work towards your goals, clothing for interviews, etc.

They cannot discriminate based on your race, gender, or sexual orientation.

They won't make you do excessive meetings.

They will allow you to do meetings with your caseworker remotely.

They will not drug test you.

They want you to succeed.

I'm sure that individual experiences vary but my caseworker was exceptionally easy to work with and very kind.

Originally made for blind readers, now a go-to for multitasking or rest. It's one of my favourite pastimes!

6. Touchless & Automatic Doors

Again made for accessibility but now essential in supermarkets, airports and hospitals.

7. Subtitles & Captions

Originally for Deaf and hard of hearing people, now everyone uses them, on the train, at night, or just to focus better.
