After his last incident with the portals, Martin has learned his lessons. They sometimes lead to somewhere dangerous, like the Fucking North Pole. As much as he ended up enjoying himself, the werejaguar still had no intention of repeating that sort of shenanigan... So this time, he was careful, finding a portal that leads to relatively similar environments, and ended up in another jungle. Different plants and different scents in the air as his home, but it has the similar climate. He stalks the foreign land in his jaguar form, carrying the bag of his belongings on his back, getting the lay of the land.

Climbing up on a tree branch, the jaguar stretches his limbs and back. Scratches the tree bark to sharpen his claws lazily. This isn't too bad, he thinks. Just as he thinks he should take a nap or something, a set of footsteps catches his ears. His golden eyes find a stranger, a human, walking through the jungle. Oh, good, a local. Martin reaches out his paw to sign 'wait' before switching back to human. The sounds of bones shifting cannot be pleasant and he ends up naked but, it is what it is. "Wait, uh, don't freak out," he says, quickly putting on his underwear first. "You're from around here, yeah? I'm, uh, from another jungle beyond one of those weird portals. Exploring and shit." He regrets immediately for saying 'shit' to someone he just met. "I just wanted to ask where this place is and, uh, what's good around here?"

once  upon  a  time  he  felt  like  a  stranger  in  this  very  jungle,  he  traveled  to  this  fantastical  place  via  freighter,  which  had  not  been  a  pleasant  journey  -  all  in  the  hopes  of  proving  his  worth  to  his  father.  to  prove  he  could  not  only  work  books,  but  that  he  was  more  than  an  avid  reader.  out  in  the  wild,  researching  &  exploring  a  world  unlike  anything  he'd  ever  seen  in  front  of  him.  after  everything  that  happened,  this  ..  was  home.  almost.  no,  it  was.  sure,  some  days  he  wished  the  comforts  of  england  back,  but  those  were  a  small  price  to  pay  for  the  love  of  his  life.  he  wasn't  far  from  the  home  they'd  built  for  themselves  in  the  jungle,  wandering  &  exploring,  because  there  was  always  something  new  to  see.

though   today   he   wasn't   exploring   per   se,   he   was   out   on   a   mission.   fishing.   tarzan   was   the   one   who   usually   provided   for   them,   james   raised   their   son   &   did...   other   things.   he'd   grabbed   a   simple   fishing   rod,   had   gathered   some   worms   in   a   linen   bag   (all   by   himself)   &   set   out   for   the   river   right   by   their   house.   well,   almost.   he   had   to   climb   down   the   mountainside   first,   but   it   was   still   close   to   home.   he   knew   he   could   do   this.   he   was   fine.   "this   is   your   home,   you're   fine.   splendid.   this   is   where   you   belong   now."   just   as   he   finished   his   short   mumble   to   himself,   he   caught   the   sight   of   a   gigantic   wild   cat   stretching   &   scratching   on   a   tree.   instant   stop.   his   heart   hammering   in   his   chest,   pulse   thrumming   in   his   ears.   oh   god.

trying   to   find   any   means   of   escape   before   the   wildcat   noticed   him,   "oh   god,   oh   god,   oh   no,   this   is   why   i   shouldn't   be   out   here."   when   it   did   seem   to   smell   his   fear   -   or   catch   his   nervous   chatter,   he   held   his   breath.   "it's   okay,   kitty   kitty.   it's   okay.   i'm   uh...   this   is   uh,   oh   lord,   you're   human.   or   something.   oh   wow,   i   didn't   expect   that   at   all.   ummmm,   the   portals?"   that   would   explain   the   shift,   which   ...   didn't   weird   him   out   per   se.   it   just   surprised   him.   "well,   this   is   the   jungle.   i   mean,   the   african   jungle.   you're   in   africa.   i   mean,   i   could   mark   it   on   a   map,   but   i   didn't   bring   my   map.   i   was   just   ..."   he   wiggled   the   rod   in   his   hands,   which   he'd   almost   forgot.   "soooo,   you're   not   feeling   hungry   for   ….say,   a   human   sandwich?   those   claws   were   very   impressive,   i   must   say.   they   really   went   all   the   way   in   there."   yes,   he   rambled   when   he   was   nervous.   or   when   he   feared   for   his   life.

helping   the   youngling   up,   james   blew   warm   air   into   his   palm   after   getting   cold   &   wet   snow   on   it.   he   was   so   used   to   the   heat   now   that   he   couldn't   even   imagine   living   in   england   again.   shifting   his   weight   from   one   foot   to   the   other,   he   tried   to   stay   somewhat   ..warm.   "me   against   a   sled?   yeah,   i   wouldn't   have   made   it   out   intact,   most   likely."   but   he   was   okay,   so   he   focused   on   the   facts   -   not   the   maybe's,   but   did   keep   a   mental   reminder   that   this   place   wasn't   safe.   "you   better   get   inside   before   you   catch   a   cold.   being   wet   out   here   in   the   temperatures   below   freezing   is   not   going   to   end   well."   he   was   not   trying   to   dad   the   other,   but   he   couldn't   help   it.   "james,   pleasure's   all   mine.   i'm   uh...   well,   i've   seen   snow   before,   but   it's   been   a   long,   long   time."   he   glanced   around,   then   reconsidered   his   response. 

"never   this   much,   though.   england's   more   into   rain.   but   i   don't   live   there   anymore,   so   it's   really   almost   new   for   me,   i   suppose."   little   nod   to   himself,   then   he   gave   the   other   another   once   over.   "where   are   you   from?   assuming   it's   somewhere   warm."

"       hold   on   tight,   my   love.       "                       tarzan   says,   laughing   as   he   gripped   on   james'   hand,   while   also   making   sure   his   leg's   own   grip   on   the   ceiling   joists   was   strong.   on   their   left,   the   makeshift   scaffold   tower   where   james   was   standing   has   rolled   away   from   them.

this   would   have   been   easy   for   the   other   in   another   time.   but   even   tarzan   could   admit   that   his   time   away   from   the   jungle   has   him   struggling   at   times.   he   can   only   imagine   what's   it   like   for   james.        "       london   has   really   made   us   rusty   on   things   like   this,   huh?   i   can   cross   the   joists   to   the   platform.   do   you   think   you   can   climb   back   up?       "

"always."   it   was   like   riding   the   bike,   james   clung   to   the   other   like   he   belonged,   which   -   in   a   way   he   probably   did.   he   remembered   the   early   days   in   the   jungle   after   meeting   tarzan.   arms   slung   around   his   broad   shoulders,   face   pressed   into   his   impressive   chest.   james   didn't   know   it   at   the   time,   but   he'd   been   doomed   from   the   very   start.   that   moment   when   their   eyes   &   palms   met   for   the   first   time,   james   fell   &   he   only   landed   when   they   saw   each   other   again   months   later.   he'd   come   far   since   then,   no   longer   the   damsel   in   distress.

well,   at   least   not   as   often.   "oh,   oh   --   oh,   careful.   i'm   uh--   ohhh   boy,   oh   lord.   it's   fine,   i'm   fine."   ever   the   nervous   rambler.   "yeah,   yeah,   i   got   it.   i'm   good,   fine   -   great.   just   let   me   down   and   i'll   meet   you   up   top."   he   ...should   be   fine.   yes,   he   was   rusty.   tarzan   was   doing   beautifully   as   he   always   had.   james   remembered   the   first   time   he   saw   him   swing   through   the   air   like   it   was   nothing.   again,   he'd   been   doomed   early   on   even   if   he   didn't   know   it   at   the   time.   their   son   was   back   with   kala   &   the   others,   so   at   least   if   james   fell   to   his   death,   nobody   would   be   traumatized,   right?   "it'll   hold   me,   right?"   glancing   up   at   the   scaffolding   tower,   he   ...wasn't   so   sure.

going   from   the   near   unbearable   heat   of   africa   to   the   freezing   cold   temperatures   at   the   north   pole   sure   sent   him   down   the   rollercoaster   of   regret   &   disbelief.   he   really   left   the   jungle.   he   couldn't   quite   tell   how   long   it'd   been   since   he   stumbled   over   tarzan   for   the   first   time,   but   the   way   his   toes   curled   at   the   cold   surely   reminded   him   that   it   had   been   a   long   time.   london   hadn't   been   too   warm,   least   of   all   in   the   winter,   so   he'd   be   much   better   adapted   if   he   still   lived   where   he   was   born.   but   alas...   he'd   never   seen   so   much   snow   in   one   place   before   &   truth   be   told   he   loved   it.   looking   around   him,   he   also   seemed   to   not   be   the   only   one.   too   busy   observing   the   people   around   him,   he   didn't   notice   someone   coming   right   for   him.   taken   aback   by   the   strange   boy   tumbling   &   landing   in   the   snow,   he   saw   the   sleigh   &   the   tracks,   realizing   he   would've   been   the   point   of   impact   originally.   "that   was   uh,   hi   hello,   are   you   alright?   that   could   have   gone   really   terribly.   i   mean,   sure   you   seem   fine,   but   i'm   sure   it   could've   not   been   fine   at   all."   oh,   damnit,   he   was   rambling   again.   "sorry."   hand   held   out,   ready   to   help   him   up.   "james.   thank   you   for   not   crashing   into   me."
