People who weren't familiar with the landscape showed up, treated it as a popularity contest, and didn't use the work to express anything but wanting interaction. On top of that, they didn't engage with other works. They prioritised short form content that would usually be a sort of "headcanon list" that you write in a grocery queue because it's quick and an easy way to get notes, and some headcanons really took off, even ones that ended up being as questionable as what you mention above.

I've seen Eren with the most cliché (and imo, racist) stereotyped nonsense personality because someone got notes for saying he's selling you drugs, calling you "ma", and is using nonstop AAVE despite being as white as I am (and I'm the colour of milk). I am not the authority on such things, and correct me if I'm wrong in my reading of it as racist and stereotyped.

But it was formed from a really specific subset of headcanons that got traction because of tiktok and it's easy notes.

I've seen nonstop "my work isn't getting notes, I don't wanna write" - it's because you're writing FOR NOTES that this happens.

On top of that, I have seen a HUGE uptick in people filtering by Kudos - yes, that can be a big help for people, no denying it. But you lose out on new and low note gems because you only want the most popular ones and people don't want to search. Good works get lost because of the popularity contest energy of fanbases.
