Robert grew into a notable young man, ready to take to horseback and carry on the work his older brother had begun.

The unwed girls of the town giggle as Robert passes by, each hoping to catch a glimpse of his striking green eyes. For his part, however, he shows little interest, for now.

In the wake of the financial strain left by Erwin’s passing, Jette returned to their childhood home to help Maitane care for the children. She did not come alone, however, bringing with her her own little ones, Lettice and Edward, and her late husband's horse, Andromeda, filling the old house once more.

Carol reached the Wilmere household within hours, by which time Katherine had already been laid down. She begged her sister with a trembling voice to hold on just a moment longer, but once Carol met Alfred’s gaze, his wife's sheets covered in dark red blood, they both understood there was only one path left to take.

Carol acted with steady hands and a breaking heart, cutting her little sister's belly in order to bring the two premature baby girls into the world. Katherine had no life left in her to hear their first cries.

After Katherine’s burial, Alfred was asked what names the little girls would bear. “Anne-Katherine and Averil-Rose,” he answered without hesitation, his voice steady despite the grief, “to honor their mother and grandmother, both strong women, as they too will grow to be.”

How long it would take for the news to reach Brindleton Bay remained uncertain.

Katherine did not survive her birth roll.

Maitane’s labor was calm and untroubled, bringing into the world the final gift her late husband had left her before being taken by the freezing winter waters.

As the baby boy, Richard, drew his first breath, the snows began to melt, signaling the end of a long and bitter season for the Hubbard family.

Small blessings continue to find their way to the Hubbard household after a year marked by hardship. Through it all, Maitane proved she carried the strength to keep going.

Cecilia had never seen the sea until the very day she was meant to cross it, bound for Brindleton Bay. Her heart thudded fiercely in her chest as she said her farewells to her siblings and stepped aboard the ship beside her soon-to-be husband, beginning the days-long journey toward a new life.

Once at sea, Cecilia could scarcely keep anything down, making countless trips to the rail to empty her stomach into the waves below. Oliver laughed it off, saying “Brindleton Bay will know you’ve arrived long before we do”, but Cecilia said nothing. Deep down, she could only pray that it was truly the sea that troubled her, and nothing more.

Cecilia is now part of the Colee family, and will move in to live with her new husband in Bridleton Bay

“There you are,” he murmured, voice low and familiar. “I’ve missed you.”

Cecilia’s heart thudded painfully; in only a short while, she was meant to be preparing for a new life and a new husband far from Windenburg. Yet Alfred’s nearness made that future blur at the edges.

Maitane’s brother, Oliver Colee, returned to Windenburg after five long years working as a shipwright in Brindleton Bay. Now a young man with his own business in the bustling port state, he spoke eagerly of building a stable life and of finding a good woman to share it with.

To Maitane, it seemed like the perfect chance for Cecilia to secure a kinder, steadier future, even if it meant a life far from Windenburg.

Cecilia had her doubts about leaving, knowing it might be years before she saw her family again, especially Katherine. Yet the thought of starting anew, far from Windenburg and everything she’d known, carried its own spark. For all the uncertainty, the idea of a fresh beginning felt undeniably exciting.
