She looked back at him with a sincere gaze. She had learned sorrow from the humans, and a tad bit of self-consciousness. She indicated the cracks on her cheeks, a strange pattern for a creature that was supposedly immortal. It made her look like someone had tapped her glassy features a bit too roughly, sending clear veins up to her burgundy eyes. In her own voice she addressed him, âDo these marks look frightening? I donât think I could stand it if the humans thought I was ugly.â

For a moment, he looked her over. Not saying a word. Just studying every visible inch of her. Dark amber eyes drifted from crack, to smooth skin, then to the next crack. They were delicate, intricate, beautiful. He closed his eyes, thinking of how to answer her. Finally he spoke.
âWere you a vase, I would filled those cracks with gold so they may show. As you are beautiful regardless of how damaged you are. But you are not fine porcelain to display. But that does not make you any less beautiful, my sister. Those cracks are a part of you.â
He smiled, leaning against his staff. âYou wear them well.â
