Nick at a Halloween party.(Oct 26, 2014 )
I really liked Nick in A Single Man, and I like that you couldn’t really tell who he was in the movie until the end. Is he a hustler, is he an angel? You can’t really get your finger on this kid. Is he intelligent, is he a moron? There’s a great enigmatic nature to him in that movie.
Nick made the character more complex than he was originally written. Nick’s natural humanity and intelligence brings Flem to life in a different way that creates a grey area that was there onscreen and wasn’t necessarily on the page.

Tom Riley on being an actor, producer and possibly a director!!
…I think [Kill Your Friends] is going to be quite good. We panicked about the tone. Everyone in the film is a douchebag – myself included. It felt good on the set, but you never know until you see it. I remember me, Craig Roberts and Nicholas Hoult couldn’t get through scenes together, we were shaking with laughter. When you’re on a low-budget film and time is of the essence you know you mustn’t laugh anymore because you’re running out of time but that just makes it worse. I saw Nick in New York recently and he really seems positive about it. Which is nice – because you never know.”

It turns out that I have always liked Nicholas Hoult, since first seeing him in About A Boy (with Hugh Grant) in 2002. He was 13 or so at the time but even at that time he was a great actor. I remember loving the movie as much as I had loved the book, one of the reasons being the actor playing Marcus (the Kid) being so well chosen for the part. Even at 13 Nicholas Hoult could steal a scene. Lucky for us though Nicholas Hoult is no longer a little boy, in fact he has grown to be a stunning man who catches my breath every time I see him on screen. And he can still act!
I always forget how much I love Nicholas Hoult, in fact I never know that it is him playing a role until I look him up. He catches my eye in everything I ever see him in and looks amazing, but I never can tell that it is him, I just don’t recognize him. The latest example of this came as I was watching Tom Ford’s A Single Man starring Colin Firth and Nicholas Hoult. The movie is a piece of art with each frame being beautifully done, which is exactly what I expect from Tom Ford. There were also plenty of beautiful people in the film, with the focal point being Hoult. He looks amazing, but like I said I had no clue it was him. I had to Google him which reminded me how much I love everything else he is in and how beautiful he is, leading to this post.
I first rediscovered Hoult while watching the British show Skins, a somewhat raunchy teen drama that Hoult starred in playing a wild and morally corrupt teenager, Tony Stonem. Tony was always causing trouble and as an actor he is able to come across coy and confident while remaining likable. And that smile… He is definitely my favorite character from that season of Skins and I hated that he wasn’t on the second, but Hoult is now much too busy for television shows I am sure. The show isn’t the same now in my opinion though, Hoult really made the show great.
I also didn’t realize that Hoult starred as Hank McCoy in X-Men until I saw it under his filmography. He is so cute in the movie, but, again I really didn’t realize it was him. He just looks totally different in each movie to me for some reason. Am I the only one that thinks this? At least I consistently like him, both his acting ability and his attractiveness, that is a good sign.
There are few actors that can surprise me or keep me interested in new ways each time I see them on film. Nicholas Hoult is one such actor that can do that. I would watch anything that he is in and would place a bet that he does a good job, everything that I have seen him in over the past 12 years would lead me to believe that he would. I also think it is great that I don’t instantly recognize him, it means that he does a good job becoming his character, something I would say is definitely true. Also, he seems to be getting better and better looking as time goes and also seems to be a nice guy. He may be perfect! Lol.
Safe to say that I will be watching to see what Nicholas Hoult does next, I expect great things!
Nicholas Hoult headed out to the Arclight in Hollywood with some friends to enjoy a night out. 22/10/14 x 16 HQ's
Can he actually play the guitar? Lol
