The event eventually came to a close and as the staff were ushering guests out of the club, Matthew made his way back to his V.I.P. room, the one that he had spent money on to remain solely for himself, a sanctuary for a depowered demon in a sea of thirsty vampires. The night had not gone well, which was usually the case when it came to Matthew and parties, but he had hung back for a reason, knowing that this would be a good opportunity as the door to the room swung open.
"Judas..." the fallen deity said in return as the tension in the air immediately became palpable. "I'm fine," he replied even as he reached his hand out to take the bottle. "My body is still not working like it used to." A pause as Matthew's eyes darted around the room for a moment. "How was your evening? I'm sure you must be exhausted."
They weren't about to take no for an answer, so it was took the potion was taking without much argument. "Still no sign of it coming back yet, huh?" he question, as casually as every other time they had talked about it. They had faith it would come back eventually, though likely not fast enough for the fallen. "You can stay here in the V.I.P. room as long as you need to regain your energy. Or my office if you want somewhere quieter, though I don't think anyone will need to clean this room." From the look and smell of it, there hadn't been any bloody activities in here.
Somehow, this conversation felt awkward. It was likely from them both ignoring their last one, seeing as it was a full blown argument with Judas storming off afterwards. they'd said a lot of things out of anger that they regretted, but there were still a few things he stood by and it felt wrong to apologise for some but not all. In response to the question, they shrugged. A nonchalant answer was going to come to their lips until the conversation he'd overheard came back to mind and he paused for a long moment, quiet.
"Yeah," he finally replied. They still didn't know what they were going to do, but he'd planned to spend a long night and probably the next few days thinking. "Kind of sucked I was back to working it, but oh well," he added after a few moments, trying to lighten the mood, even managing a small smile.
She took the arm offered to her, thanking Judas for his kindness as they got some space from the women. The vampire was always popular but even she was amazed by how many men and women followed him around. As they stepped into their office, they finally relaxed. "I lost Caleb within a few minutes but I certainly am enjoying myself. The dancefloor has been fun," she agreed. As for her boyfriend, she doubted he was having fun at all considering she hadn't seen him in over an hour. Naz didn't have the same trust issues when it came to vampires and Judas was the prime example of that.
While she was a little annoyed that she'd been abandoned all night, the alpha couldn't help how he felt around vampires. She'd rather be dancing and talking to her best friend instead of being dragged from room to room to see if a human snuck in. Naz already knew that the wine festival hadn't always gone well for her best friend so she was glad to have a chance and check in on him. "How's the night been for you?" the spirit asked, shifting through the boxes before plopping down on the sofa beside him.
"What is he doing that he managed to lose you?" he questioned with a laugh. He liked the man, despite his wolf everything, but they had found themselves questioning his decisions from time to time. Why did he leave behind a gorgeous woman that was totally into him at a party for vampires? "I'm glad you're enjoying yourself at least."
He knew she was asking for about how he was feeling, but they didn't want to get into it. She probably already knew how he was feeling, anyway. "It's been busy, but so far so good. I'm been more of a bouncer than a manager tonight, but it's way easier than dealing with drunk people demanding something they can't have, or trying to cut in lines."
Carmen blinked when they spoke her name, lifting her chin to properly take in the face behind the familiar voice. “Adam.” She spoke quietly. She might have stared at him longer, had the woman’s shrieking not brought her back out of her thoughts. She let them take her wrist, his fingers as equally cold as her own, until they reached a spot away from the crowd.
“Yes, um, five years.” Carmen responded, though three of them had been spent locked in the Sanitorium, with the world pretending she was overcoming some sort of mental health collapse or a drug addiction. “You’re a vampire, too.” She noticed, surprised, by his very real existence more so than the idea that he was a vampire too. He’d seemed so… gentle, during the dream. Loving, like she had meant everything to him. And she had seemed… normal. Happy. Like she’d been before…
The room seemed to suddenly zoom back into focus and Carmen’s gaze faltered from him, reaching up to wipe the dried blood stains from the corners of her mouth. “I know, I’m sorry, it’s just—“ She agreed, visibly jittery, because she was practically still salivating over everyone in the club. “It’s just…” She tried again, unable to keep her fangs extending to sharp points.
Wow. Nobody had called him that, at least not in reality, in a long time. Though how different were they from that version of themselves, one that only came out in dreams these days? The way she said it sounded so sweet and he found he wouldn't mind if she continued to call him that name. "Actually, I go by Judas these days. But you can keep calling me Adam if it's less confusing."
Five years was still pretty young in terms of vampires. Barely more than Chris. It only seemed a few moments before the situation came back to her and left her in some kind of panicked state. Gently, they cupped her face and guided her chin up so she met their eyes. "Breathe, Carmen. It's okay." His thumb brushed away from remaining blood stain from her lips. "If you need a minute, I can take you to a quiet room for a bit."
Eiji could feel his own heart thumping, but more than the fear that he might be killed, or sent to Zamok, or a combination of them both, he felt a strange sense of relief tangled amongst it. He wasn’t expecting the murmured words. “Wait,” Eiji said, quieter than he liked, when he realised he didn’t know what he wanted to say. “I need to—“ What did he need? To ask them what was going to happen now? To say sorry for manipulating them? For lying about everything? For being the cause of so much hurt? Eiji swallowed, “Why aren’t you handing me over?”
Judas kept his eyes locked on Jacob Eiji as he spoke. "Do you want me to hand you over?" he questioned, trying to sound intimidating but his concern started leaking through instead. "We'll deal with this later, when you aren't surrounded by vampires and all the council elders."

Eiji wanted to say more,to apologise for what he had done when it came to the curse, to somehow shift the heavy feeling in his chest for long enough to ask Rei if he really thought he was a villain. But he couldn’t, not when a familiar voice sounded from behind them.
Eiji spun around, momentarily shocked into silence. They’d both been stupid and reckless letting their emotions get the better of them in such a public place and now Eiji had messed up in a way he couldn’t get out of. “Judas, I—“ He paused, unsure why he felt so guilty. “Stop.” He held his hand out to whatever Rei was trying to attempt, “Just stop.” There was a panicked edge to his voice, unsure of what his brother would do, or what Judas had heard. Did it matter? His gaze slowly returned to the vampire. “I didn’t want to kill anyone. I just wanted to change things.”
Rei's immediate instinct, even after arguing with him, was to protect his brother. His eyes flickered from Eiji to Judas and back again. As long as he didn't hurt him, the witch wouldn't return the favor.
Now that he was focusing, he was locked on to each of their heartbeats, listening for subtle changes that indicate action. The words caused a falter in them, shaking their resolve even more. "I know," he replied, more of a murmur than they intended. "Go home, before any of us do something in anger we'll regret." It was a kindness, to both of them. A sharper stare was directed at Rei, a threat in his eyes that he didn't need to verbalise.
“Because I can’t fucking see you all the time!” Eiji snapped back emotionally, “I can’t see you all the time like I want to. Or Lian. Or anyone I care about anymore. I get it, I made my own choice and now I’ve got to sit with it, because if I don’t, no-one else is going to fucking do anything and people will carry on getting hurt. Hurt by people like your boyfriend, who don’t give a shit.” The last part he knew would drive Rei further away, when all he wanted was to somehow make everything okay, but he couldn’t help it when it felt like it was the truth.
“I tried to tell dad to stop putting it all on you. I didn’t want you to have to bear the brunt of everything on your own.” It didn’t matter now. Eiji didn’t see the point of talking about their father’s failures when clearly he had so many more of his own than he’d ever realised. He stared at him for a long moment, the neon lights barely a flicker in the distance, “I never wanted you to get involved in something you didn’t believe in, I— I thought you wanted things to change too.” Eiji stopped, “I don’t hate him because he’s a vampire. I don’t like him because everything I know about him goes against everything I thought we both believed in for Artemis. If you had just talked to me, maybe I could have found a way to try and see what you see. Because even though you think you’re a bad person, I don’t think you are, so there must be something good in him. But you didn’t, you chose to shut me out in favour of him, more than once. You could have let me in, Rei, but you were happy to wipe me from your life the second you found something better.”
"You made your choices, you caused a scene and got caught knowing what it would cost you. You had the freedom to do that, to be the known villain and still be Dad's favourite! Meanwhile I can't have a moment of peace without getting dragged back in. Why should I have to be the one to break his curse when I don't care about him?"
They both had issues, difficulty communicating but that's what they had been taught, that was what they'd learned. There was more he wanted to say, but the sudden presence that joined them stopped him in his tracks.
They had been coming out of their office when he heard the argument just outside the staff entrance. Artemis. Eiji. His nails dug into his palms as they reigned themselves in. They couldn't lash out in anger, not here. Besides that, ever since the dream of the zombie apocalypse, they'd felt a deep conflict whenever they thought of the older Remington son. They were alike in many ways, too many for him to ignore. Still, he couldn't let his go on, not in his club, not in the Rubicund.
It was what he saw when he opened the door that truly paused him. Jacob. The bartender he'd opened up to. Their surprise was evident on their face before it darkened again. "So that's how you did it. You changed your appearance to hide in plain sight. Were you waiting for your chance to attack and kill us again?"
Briefly, his eyes moved to the other boy, the witch who looked intoxicated, but that certainly made him more reckless, and therefore dangerous. "I wouldn't do that if I were you. I could kill you both before you got a spell off."
"I hope that you do. I'd make sure I come see the show," they answered, watching the acrobats move seamlessly above them. It was a shame that the others were missing a show. The witch chuckled, giving them a coy smile. "A little of both," they admitted. Part of her job was to appear exclusive so she couldn't be giving blood away to every vampire in sight.
The sentiment made the witch turn to the vampire, wondering if it would be worth getting to know them. Judas had been a nuisance to Artemis plans so the dark witch decided it might be worth getting into their good books. "Hmm, how about some company on the ferris wheel?" they suggested. "I don't have anyone to go on it with and it seems like you need company."
They were glad that they had guessed right, feeling like they were getting a good sense of the person in front of them. Not everyone was keen on giving up their blood, essentially their life essence, just for the sake of it. His time with restricted access made him appreciate what he had.
At the mention of the ferris wheel, his gazed turned in its direction. The additional comment quickly drew his attention back to her. "I don't-" he begun, but they were right. Judas had been purposefully burying themselves in work to distract from his thoughts. Was it that obvious? He let out a small sigh before offering an equally small smile. "Okay. But I don't have the time to wait in that huge line up, so I'm going to pull rank and get my newest VIP to the front of the line." He stood straighter again and offered them his arm.
The spirit had spent most of the night on the dance floor so far but her drink was empty and Naz needed some fresh air. The dancefloor felt like it had a life of it's own so escaping it was a relief. The bars were crowded but the spirit slipped through easily using her magic to get through. One of the joys of a full supernatural parties like this one was that she didn't have to hide that she was a spirit.
The familiar sight of her roommate was a pleasant one until she saw them surrounded by a few collar wearing girls, clearly getting into the vampire's space. The spirit pushed between them and rested her head against his shoulder with a dramatic sigh. "Judas, thank goodness I found you," the spirit said, making a show of wrapping an arm around their waist.
"These shoes are killing me, can we go sit together?" she asked, turning her wide brown eyes up at the vampire. Naz had used the excuse before when she wanted to escape a party so she hoped Judas would play along.
He was used to the crowds by now, but wine fest was a whole other thing. He was working yet again, unable to enjoy any of it, but maybe that was for the best. Still, the women standing around him now seemed to want more than the drugs and potions they had on hand to offer. As if summoned, Naz appeared and immediately took ownership of the situation, and him.
It was a familiar excuse, their code for needing a break. "Of course. Want to sit in my office?" It was a guaranteed spot to sit with no interruptions and she could take her shoes off if she wanted. Offering her their arms, they led her to the staff door and led her down the hall to his office. Right now it had dozens of boxes of uniforms for the event and assorted things they needed, but the chairs were still accessible. "Are you and Caleb having a good time?" They asked as they led her to the sofa.
Carmen enjoyed the ritual of the club bathrooms, for the sole reason of being able to talk to the other attendees at the mirrors while fixing her hair and reapplying her lipstick. She vaguely remembered something from her human life about a club bathroom being the best place to make new best friends while intoxicated. Short-lived and happy that the glitter covered ‘space buns’ atop her head were still perfectly sparkly, she exited and made her way back to one of the dance floors.
There were lots of inviting red collars on display and she felt an eager hunger stir in her stomach. It was certainly different to her usual blood supply, almost overwhelmingly so as she listened to loud thumping of multiple hearts around her and the steady rush of blood. She was so distracted by it, she didn’t really notice herself reaching out to grab someone’s wrist, pulling them abruptly closer to her and attempting to sink her fangs into the inside of their wrist.
The red collared witch promptly tore themselves away and scowled at her, shrieking a very justified complaint about consent into the club and angrily looking about, probably in search of some management to complain to.
Carmen blinked panicked eyes before attempting to dart off into the crowd, but instead smacked head first into somebody’s chest. “Ow.” She whined, holding her nose.
He was doing rounds again, checking that the trouble was being kept to a manageable level and handing out party favours when requested. They'd worked here long enough to be able to let the sound of hundreds of heartbeats become background murmurs, though he was still working on effectively focusing on listening to individuals overtop of that hum. He could still easily hear voices when they were shrieking about consent and complaints. With practiced movements, he began toward the voice and was soon rewarded with someone running into his chest.
"Carmen?" He recognised her, from the last dream. He remembered adoring her and encouraging her dreams. He wondered if she was as cute as she had been as an actress, or if it was a different version of her, like Adam was to him. The shrieking woman rounded on him to complain. "I'm the manager here, ma'am. I'll handle it." Reaching down, Judas took a gentle hold of her wrist and led her through the crowd. "So, vampire," he noted. "I'm guessing relatively new? This many people around offering their blood can be very overwhelming. You need to keep control of yourself." His lecture was given with a soft, guiding tone. She had secured herself a soft spot in him already, after all.

As the event started to draw to a close, Judas began making rounds to see which VIP rooms were already empty and to find out if there were any that were disasters. Thankfully, they weren't completely bloody, something he considered a win. He knew all the names of people who had rented VIP rooms, but clearly didn't remember who had which one, finding himself surprised to come face to face with Matthew. The vampire had been quietly hoping the elder would come find them at some point in the night, but that was wishful thinking after the way they blew up at him.
"Matthew," he greeted with a nod of his head. His eyes flickered around the room, surprised to find it empty. "Are you alright? You're looking a bit pale. Here." He pulled a potion out of his pocket and held it out to him. It wasn't the first one he'd handed out tonight.
The dark witch knew who had joined her immediately and the outfit gave away that he was here for work, rather than pleasure so they relaxed. This particular vampire was easy to recognise. Judas Samara had been a menace to the Artemis group for years, always finding a way to get in intertwined with the group. They should have died a few times over but they continued to survive.
"They're missing one hell of a show." Lian supposed she should be glad that they would at least be getting paid for their time and hard work. It still felt like a waste of their talent when they weren't being watched. "There's quite a few here for the vampire's," she commented, seeing the flashing red collars light up on the dancefloor. "I like to be a little more exclusive with that."
She seemed so calm and collected, like she was just watching the entire event and had no interest in partaking. Still, their outfit was well put together, far more on theme than some of the others he'd seen so far tonight. "You're not wrong. I'm hoping to have an excuse to bring them back for another performance at a later date, hopefully more people will be able to appreciate it."
"With your blood, or the company you keep?" he asked, feeling like it might also be the latter. "As long as you're finding some way to enjoy yourself. If there is anything I can get or provide you, please let me know."

Lian enjoyed a chance to dress up and see their nephews but that wasn't the reason they had come to the party tonight. It was a good look to her boss, who they knew was lurking around here somewhere but mostly, Lian wanted to practice some magic in a place where it didn't matter who got hurt or if someone went missing.
They had been working incredibly hard on some of their necromantic magic and Lian was looking forward to testing it out on some unknowing patrons at the party. If they could control the undead, maybe she could find a way to raise it as well. The witch moved through the party, able to avoid the grabby hands of a insistent vampires and found a spot on the balcony to watch the crowd below.
Her eyes drifted up to the acrobats, watching their show. It seemed like a waste, barely anyone was watching as the tricks were performed seamlessly. Lian had grown up in the circus and knew the trick to each move but it still was impressive to her. When someone joined her, she gave them a small smile, still watching the act. "It's quite the impressive show. I don't think the crowd even realise what's happening right above them," the witch commented.
They'd put in extra hours the past few weeks to ensure they were fully stocked up on everything they needed. Sure, the clan was hosting the event, but he was one of the managers. It was his job to make sure things went smoothly from start to finish. They were frequently checking in with various staff to get them whatever they needed or assist as necessary. Normally, he might have wandered the crowd, handing out drinks or keeping an eye on things, but they didn't want to see things they might regret later. Instead, he would spot people who were standing separate from the crowd and check in on them. When he approached the dark witch, they seemed content, watching the show going on above them.
"I doubt it, but it's there for those who do," he replied. He had met with the acrobats a few times in the days prior as they organized the performance. "Some people are here for the wine, and not the vampires." For the lack of collar she wore, he guessed she was one of them.
"Humans should not be allowed on the Council. This does not happen in any other cities in the world where supernaturals live and it's going to be trouble for us now that we've given them a precedence in this one," Matthew groused. Judas had heard this tirade of his many times before, but Matthew did not tire of repeating it. And yet there was little they could do unless they resorted to Order magic, which would invite even more trouble.
Judas did not know how the council worked, and he didn't necessarily want to. It seemed like a lot of politics between people who didn't like each other all that much. "Maybe it's time to make some progress forward. Humans are a large part of the city's population." He didn't have any issue with humans himself and his best guess was that Matthew was still upset about the attack on the Hereafter, among other things. "Give it time."
-----
"Progress forward? With humans? We've done fine enough without them until now. Knowing their kind, they'll want to meddle in more than they can handle or understand. They don't even possess any sort of magic." Matthew was staring grumpily out of the car window and the hand he had placed against the back of his thigh had curled into a tight fist.
-----
Something about the way Matthew spoke sounded like he thought it would make things worse in the city. "You know I barely have any magic, either." The glamour didn't count in comparison to what others could do. "Humans play a significant role in the city, it wouldn't function without them." Judas managed to keep his eyes forward, though they briefly glanced back at Matthew in the rear view mirror and could see the scowl on his face.
-----
"You're made of magic," Matthew returned with ease. "I wouldn't lump vampires like yourself in with their lot." They were essentially prey to vampiric kind too.
"Tch. You know there was a time before humans…" Not that Matthew had existed in that time. The fallen deity was directing a scowl out of the window as he groused, his nerves finally easing now that they were driving away from the library and that dreadful human representative in the council room.
-----
"What I'm made of is insecurities and other people's blood," he countered with a scoff.
"That time is long gone, Matt. If you really wanted to be completely apart from humans, you'd live somewhere they aren't." They knew the fallen deity was stubborn, but so was he and he wasn't letting this go, not yet anyway. Maybe if he pushed long enough, Matthew would let his mind open a bit.
-----
Matthew's eyes darted to catch Judas' in the rearview mirror and they narrowed because he knew that the vampire was pushing back on purpose.
"That wouldn't leave me with very many places. Their kind are crawling all over the world!" the fallen deity returned with an annoyed huff knowing that he was on the losing end of this exchange. "Now if only certain magics were not forbidden, we'd be able to handle this situation much easier."
-----
Matthew wasn't cursing and shutting him down yet. "You can't go eliminating everyone you don't like," he replied, his voice a little more stern this time. They couldn't be exactly sure what forbidden magic he wanted to use, but they felt confident making a guess.
-----
"Who's to say that I couldn't? Just a bit of void magic here and there and this would all be fixed." And yet it was a magic Matthew had not tried using before as a demon, not since his prior use of forbidden deity magic had gotten him in trouble. "No more humans."
-----
They both knew he couldn't do that, but they also knew that if he had the chance to, it was likely he would. "Well, you can't, so I suggest you learn to live with it." He pulled the vehicle into a parking space outside of the Hereafter, glad to be done with that drive.
-----
Matthew's eyes darted to Judas' as they pulled into a parking space outside the Hereafter, a sharpness to the look he gave them. He did not like having his depowered state be called out to be used against his own rants and Judas had done just that.
"What do you think I've been doing for the last five months?" His hand found the door and he opened it to step out of the car to stalk towards the building.
-----
He immediately recognised his error. Matthew clearly took it to mean his depowered state. "I meant ever, as a councilman. I didn't-" but Matthew was already out of the car. Judas let out a heavy sigh before stepping out of the driver seat, ensuring it was locked before trailing behind the fallen deity.
-----
Matthew entered the Hereafter after pushing the heavy front doors open by hand, an act he would normally have used his magic for had he still possessed it. That blasted gun Roan shot him with had done a great job at robbing him of his powers and he hated every moment of it. Was he going to have to live like this for the rest of time?
He stalked towards the penthouse elevator and his finger jabbed angrily at the elevator button as if it would summon the contraption any faster, an act that only served to remind him that he could not use his portals anymore either. He hated living like this. "This must be so entertaining for you to watch."
-----
They were still several steps behind but the elevator was not fast enough for Matthew to leave them behind in the lobby and he was soon standing beside him. The comment cause their face to scrunch into a frown. "Why would I find any part of this entertaining? You're upset and struggling. I don't enjoy seeing the people I care about suffer. I don't know if you think the same."
-----
"Doesn't everyone find this entertaining?" Not that Matthew's predicament was known to many others, but the fallen deity could not help but pay attention to the intrusive thoughts inside his head. The council meeting that he just abruptly walked out of did not help matters or his state of mind.
"What are you trying to imply with that last one? Do you think I'm making you suffer?" he asked just as the elevator door dinged and slid open.
-----
"Do you seriously think I'd find this entertaining?" They asked sharply, turning narrow eyes on him. The situation only reminded him of the zombie life and how shared Matthew had been to leave the Hereafter.
"I didn't say that, but you certainly don't do anything to alleviate my worries." Sure, Judas was still upset about everything, but they hadn't been planning on mentioning it. They stepped into the elevator, using the movement to hopefully keep all of his thoughts from tumbling out.
-----
"Don't you?" Matthew shot back as he followed Judas' into the elevator. "I'm all weak and defenceless now. It must be hilarious."
"What would you have me do? Hole myself up at home? Or better yet, I'll also stay meek and quiet while I do that."
-----
"Is that really how you think I'd react in this situation?" Their eyes were locked onto him, his expression somewhere between disbelief and upset. "If it wasn't for the peace agreement, I'd be terrified every second of every day."
"That's not what I mean. I mean that if something did happen, it's unlikely you'd ever tell me. I didn't find out until days later, from somebody else. I was trying to call you, I was scared to death something happened to you!"
-----
"Terrified of what? That the humans will come after me again?" Matthew asked in return, not wanting to acknowledge the upset in Judas' eyes as the elevator door closed them into the privacy of its confines.
"I've told you before that I did not call you because I was sparing you having to see me in that state. I handled things the way I thought was best." The fallen deity was so used to having his powers, so used to relying on them, that he often did not know what to do without them. "But it's not like it matters. Not when you've already seen me like this."
-----
"Humans or other people you've angered." Did he really not see how heartbroken Judas would be if he was gone? Sure, there was no true death for him but the concept was still very real in the vampire's mind.
"I've already seen you like that so many times. You're still you, powers or not." Judas sucked in a deep breath and tried to calm himself, but it was difficult. Suddenly, the elevator felt claustrophobic. "I want to be there to support you when you're hurt. Then again, you didn't even acknowledge me when I got shot. Clearly, you only have the capacity to worry about yourself and expect everyone to think the same."
-----
"And I hate it. I hate being seen like this!" the fallen deity shot back as the elevator ascended to the top floor of the Hereafter. "By you or by anyone, for that matter!"
"And we were not on speaking terms when you got shot." But Matthew could not even remember who imposed those terms back then anymore, which only proved that he often let his own pride and ego win out over anything and everything else. "I sent you a protective amulet. What more should I have done?"
-----
"Because you think people only matter when they're powerful. If they don't have magic, they're just vermin to you, right?" He snapped back.
"So if I had died from getting shot, you wouldn't have cared because we weren't talking?" It had hurt when Matthew didn't respond or acknowledge it, even sending the amulet without putting anything on it to make it clear who it was from. "I get that I'll never matter to you how Izak or that demon do, but I thought you might care enough that if I was gone, you'd be upset or care."
-----
"Magic matters because magic is what sets us apart from them. They are weak. Ineffectual. We could ground them beneath our feet and yet we do not!"
"And I didn't even know you'd gotten shot until after the fact! By the time I'd found out, it was clear you were going to make it. You don't know what I'd felt then because we do not talk about these things!" Matthew seethed in return, but froze when Judas brought up Izak and his demon to throw back in his face.
"Do not bring them up. They have nothing to do with whatever we're discussing right now."
-----
"You're so obsessed with being powerful because you don't want anyone to have control over your life like the deities who cast you out," he countered sharply, though a part of them knew it was unfair to use such a statement during their argument. He wasn't purposefully trying to hurt him, but nothing else got through to him.
"No, I do talk about it. You don't." Was the elevator going slower just for them to argue longer? "They have everything to do with it. You told me you care about me but we've gone right back to the way things were before. I broke the heart of someone I loved, who genuinely loved me, just for you to treat me like another random vampire in your roster!"
-----
"Yes. That is exactly why I care. Power. So I would never be brought so low again. To be so weak. So useless. So human!" Matthew raged, his frustrations pouring out at one of the very few people who cared about him.
Matthew could only stare at Judas after they finished their tirade, his desire to tap into his magic to make this go away was out of reach. It was only the ding of the elevator as it reached its destination that broke them both out of the moment.
The fallen deity drew in a breath and swept out of the confined space. "I do not know what you mean by 'another vampire in my roster'.." he said, voice low as he refused to look back at Judas. "There is no other vampire in my roster. But if you believe you've made a mistake by choosing me, then by all means, leave. No one is keeping you here."
-----
He didn't know why it upset him so much. Maybe it was because they felt closer to being human than they did to being a deity or a demon.
The stare they received from Matthew was a familiar look, one he'd received before when they pushed too hard. Judas remained in the elevator, scoffing as the demon spoke.
"As if you're not still fucking Chris, or that you won't throw yourself at every interested vampire at wine fest." He reached over, ready to hit the button to take him back down to the lobby. Clearly Matthew didn't want him there, so he wasn't going to stay. "At least Arjun made me feel wanted, and not just so I could drive him around."
-----
Chris?! Matthew turned on his heel, wanting to refute those ridiculous notions in Judas' head. Other vampires?! He had not gone near any other vampires since he was shot, and even if he did appear at some vampire parties, they were mostly for show -- to show the community that he was as alive and as well as he could be.
But when his eyes met the other's, a fear welled up in him because it sounded like Judas wanted to leave. Another one leaving already. Another one straining at some invisible leash Matthew did not realise he had been holding. Perhaps it would be better to let it go.
"If that's what you truly think, then leave. I've already told you. Leave! I give you permission. I release you from whatever form of servitude you think you're under!"
-----
He had hoped, really hoped, that Matthew would say something. Deny things, say he was only seeing Judas, anything to alleviate some of his worries. But that was too much to ask for. The demon would rather send him away than show him any kind of care or affection.
Without another word, Judas pressed the elevator buttons and let the doors close.

Making bad relationship decisions Art and painting. It always feels a little different every time.

Honestly, he didn't have a plan before. Now he knows he could stick to his bunker with their weapons and be good. He might be a little more cautious about who he invites into the bunker, though.
🪣 Do they have a bucket list?
The one big thing he wants to do is return to his hometown, see the changes, see if their old home is still there, and try to find his parents' gravestones, if they have them.
☺️ Do they have something special that picks them up when they feel down? What is it?
Their first go to when they're feeling down is usually hanging out with friends, but if they on their own, they'll normally pick up their guitar and play something.
