While Roy was talking home from the corner store near his new apartment he passed an gated work site after hours where he saw a group of teenagers, two of them fighting eachother
James was one of them, on the ground on her back pushing someone off
@jthething
Normally he tried to stay out of local issues—he’d been doing his best to let low—but this was a bunch of kids. So he made his way over to try to break up the fight, arms between them. “Hey, that’s enough,” Roy told them.
James wipes her nose which was bleeding and steps away from Roy
"who the fuck are you?"
“Doesn’t matter who I am, you two were testing each other apart,” Roy answered. He was a bit relieved she spoke English. His brain was too stressed to think through Vietnamese right now.
"it does matter, this is nome of your business"
She crossed her arms and puffed her chest out a bit
“Oh, I’m sorry, next time I’ll just let them pound your skull in,” Roy snapped.
He was tired. Tired of being underestimated and left out and demonized here. And he was tired of not being Arsenal, but he couldn’t realistically indulge in that part of his life when he had a criminal daughter running around out there.
Honestly, Roy was a bit tired of life in general.
She kicked Roy's shin "i wasn't going to lose!"
She didn't like Roy coming in and assuming he knew the dynamics
If he’d had his Arsenal gear on he wouldn’t have bruised from that, but he didn’t. “Ouch, gods, alright! Fuck me for trying to help. It’s this thing decent people try to do, you know.”
"i don't need you to defend me" she argued
"you should learn to mind your own business around here"
Roy opened his mouth to argue, then just nodded. “Fine. Fine. Have a wonderful day,” he told her sarcastically, turning to leave. He couldn’t help but wonder if this would have gone differently if he’d had a mask on.
Once Roy turns around james punched the person they were fighting who falls into Roy
He reacted on instinct, turning to grab the person and throw them over his shoulder before he could really think about it and how it might out him as someone with training and combat experience. “Shit,” he muttered, moving to help them up.
James chuckled as she watched Roy
"good going mr morals"
”Sorry,” he told the person he’d knocked over before looking at James. “Hey you don’t know me either,” Roy snapped.
She smiled when he snapped at her.
"seems like we're on the same page now"
The temptation to flip her off and walk away was there. “Except the part where I was trying to help breaking up the fight, and your friend just startled me.”
"i mean on not knowing each other stupid"
She rolled her eyes "and I'm not friends with them"
He was amused until she called him stupid. “Right, I’m not doing this with you. If I wanted insults I know people for that.”
She frowns when he stops smiling "you're kinda being a baby about being called stupid by a teenager" she points out.
She liked the banter until he got mad about it
“And you're kind of being an asshole to a stranger for no reason. I’m sorry I interrupted your fight but fuck,” he muttered, shaking his head. “I hate this place so much.”
"if you hate it why don't you leave?" She asked
“My daughter lives here,” he replied. “Despite what her spiteful mother thinks, where else would I ever want to be?”
"wow an actually caring dad, that's rare" she was almost.. almost impressed if it wasn't the bare minimum.
“Wasn't even told about her, so I’m making up for lost time thr beat I can,” he replied. “Why am I even telling you this?” Roy muttered to himself, sighing.
"people like to tell me things" she shrugs
"but we're less strangers" she pointed out
"well one way only"
“What were you fighting over anyways?” he asked.
"he stole stuff that he's supposed to be selling, gotta make an example but you kinda ruined it"
Roy rolled his eyes a bit at that. “Maybe don't do it in the street where anyone can see.”
"i wasn't in the street, it's the middle of the night at a random work site. You just happened to walk by and see us, even when its so dark"
“I have combat experience so my situational awareness is keen,” Roy explained.
"combat experience?" She raised a brow "what kind? Like the army?" That's what she usually assumed cuz her brother was in the army

When she got down to the underground station she was greeted by a busy enough scene.
James was on the other side of the boxing ring that was down here.
She had a tank top on and was tying up her hair
She took off her hoodie and tied it around her waist left in a tanktop herself and shorts she noticed James and walked over to her
"oh hey" she smiles "you actually came"
she felt her heart skip at the smile and she smiled right back "yeah, I told you I would"
"ya well i say stuff and never do it all the time" she shrugs
"i don't really do tours but if you come enough you'll meet the people"
"Maybe i will then" she looked around "how does one sign up for a fight here?"
She points to a paper on the wall "you just put your name next to someone who doesn't have one and then eventually you'll be up to the ring"
"your name up there?"
"you wanna fight me?" She chuckled,.sorta teasing Lian
"yeah why not? you scared?" she teased back
"I'm not scared, i just think it's funny you wanna beat up your dealer" she joked
she laughed "I'm not known for my smart choices" she joked "it'd be fuun"
"hmmm, maybe we do our own private fight" she could tell Lian had skills even without seeing it. "Can't let these people think I'm not in charge" she said it all quietly, just between them. And then she winks at Lian, mostly as a joke to see her reaction
she smirked back calling the bluff but she did blush a bit. She'd trained for this type of tactic but still it was different with her for some reason.
"I'll take you up on that princess"
She chuckled at Lian calling her princess "you're cute" she said. She found Lian funny. She wasn't easily flustered.
"you are still free to put your name up there"
"alright, any suggestions?"
"on who to fight? You'll probably wipe the floor with anyone but if marcy's got her name up there I'd put yours there"

When she got down to the underground station she was greeted by a busy enough scene.
James was on the other side of the boxing ring that was down here.
She had a tank top on and was tying up her hair
She took off her hoodie and tied it around her waist left in a tanktop herself and shorts she noticed James and walked over to her
"oh hey" she smiles "you actually came"
