Every day, Jason Theodor creates a personal art-photo-journal entry on his (hopefully charged) iPad and publishes it here. Like creativity, All-Day Breakfast is absurd and difficult to define. These are his “thoughts rancheros,” served up (with a side of uneaten toast) anytime.
"ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES JACK A DULL BOY" This dialogue between Jack Nicholson and Shelly Duvall, from the movie The Shining, is an extreme example of interrupting 'maker time'. Remember, he's NOT being grouchy. (NSFW)

"Creativity is so much more than making something. Creativity is how we interact with each other… it's like trying to insist that you're alive." —Mike White

In the school environment, creativity can be considered pathological behavior as opposed to the compliant traits of being reliable, sincere, good-natured, responsible, tolerant, and peaceable — the qualities associated with the lowest levels of creativity.

Years ago, a friend of mine had a dream about a strange invention — a staircase you could descend deep underground, in which you heard recordings of all the things anyone had ever said about you, both good and bad. The catch was you had to pass through all the worst things people had said before you could get to the highest compliments at the very bottom. There is no way I would ever make it more than two and a half steps down such a staircase, but I understand its terrible logic: if we want the rewards of being loved, we have to submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known.

Be a sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them–in order that the reader may see what they are made of. —Kurt Vonnegut

Presuming that there is such a thing as ‘progress’ when it comes to music, and that music is ‘better’ now than it used to be, is typical of the high self-regard of those who live in the present. It is a myth. Creativity doesn’t ‘improve.’
David Byrne, How Music Works
