Yeah. So. This is how my “truth” would go:
The day of our rescheduled divorce hearing; a month after the original because the night before I fell asleep at the wheel driving up to my mothers house and totaled our car
You treated me like a stranger, like the past ten years never happened; like I was never a part of your life; like all if the good and great never existed and only the silent last three months before we separated did
You were nasty to my mother, who opened her heart and arms, without hesitation to you when you were disowned by your own mother and your family turned their back on you after you came out
We had never been so distant, considering ours was an instant, mutual, head-over-heels love; falling deep, falling fast, immediately connected, and safe….until it wasn’t
We were more like strangers now than before we met
After the gold seal was placed granting the divorce, I stared at it never thinking we’d come to this; but knowing I tried my best to save us; and I know I was far from perfect; there’s blame on both sides of the fence, but I didn’t want to give up so easily, while you did
But as was our way, you got the last word and you got your way. I didn’t want this to be messy, I didn’t want this to be cruel; I agreed in the spirit of being nice; I’ve never shared your secrets
I didn’t want to be “that guy”, but maybe if I had, my life wouldn’t be a constant struggle to keep my head above water; a never ending treadmill with unpredictable speeds constant taking two steps forward, five steps back
Off you went in our blue car, and I in my mothers silver car, you kept the house, most of the belongings and I got whatever you felt like leaving in a storage locker; every gift given, every card written, every framed photograph of us shoved in boxes disposing of me and the love I felt for you
